Are these ANACS slabs the real deal?

I looking to buy a cheap ANACS slab so I can decipher their bar code scheme. While browsing I notice these two slabs don't have a bar code on them like most. Take a look at these two slabs and tell me if they look real without expected bar code. Are these very old ANACS slabs before barcoding. The numbers on the two morgans are sequential "SX3875 and SX3876". These don't look like typical ANACS numbers to me.

Also I noticed that the new ANACS holder doesn't have a bar code on the front. Did they stop bar coding the new slabs?

They are real and from the early 90's.

YES! And it is unnerving to me. I had one in auction (below), a rare variety, that one person I spoke with said they didn't bid on it because they weren't sure it was an authentic ANACS slab. (I did a double fee buy back and decided to keep it.) In fact, those slabs are pretty desirable as most have been cracked and/or crossed. Grading was most consistent there at that time IMO too and they were really good with varieties.

Whenever I sell one of those I make note in the auction that it's an early version when they used letters in the cert number. That seems to allay any bidder fears.

  • So why has ANACS eliminated the bar code from their NEW slab? They're goin' down the tube. No big operation do complex tracking within company without bar codes.

Later Note: Just saw one of the new slabs on ebay with whole slab showing. The bar code is on the back.

Yeah, but it was a consignment and ended up in a regular internet auction, where no descriptions are provided. I am just going to keep it. It is a neat coin and the holder is pretty cool too. Like I said, there aren't many around of that era still.

If you saw this, why didn't you retract your earlier ill-informed opinion?
  • Because I went back and edited My post once I finally saw the back of one of the new slabs on ebay. Should I have posted that as a separate posting?

There are slabs older than that with "ANA" on them, not ANACS. The wording is in blue and I believe these slabs were when ANACS was owned by the ANA/PNG.
Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!
