Coin dealer threatened with knife, man dragged by car in coin shop incident

A man and a woman who police believe may be the couple who pulled a knife on a Spenard shop owner and then stole a nearby idling Mercedes-Benz, dragging a man who tried to stop them several hundred feet, were arrested Wednesday evening.
Rickey Blue, 47, and Jerri Leonard, 43, both of Anchorage, were arrested driving the Mercedes-Benz off Tudor Road about three hours after the incident, police said.
The man who was dragged, 29-year-old Santee McNeal, was taken to a local hospital for minor head injuries, Anchorage police spokesman Lt. Paul Honeman said.
The incident began Wednesday at about 2:30 p.m. when a man and woman walked into Roy's Coins Inc. on Spenard Road and tried to sell two silver dollars, owner Roy Brown said.
When the pair did not like the price Brown offered, they began rustling merchandise, Brown said. When they moved the cash register, he told them to get out, he said.
"Then she spat in my face," he said in a telephone interview later on Wednesday. "It made me real mad. I forgot I was close to 70 years old and tried to jump the counter."
Brown chased the pair out of the store and the woman pulled a pocketknife on him, he said.
"She said, 'Come on, sucker, I'll cut you up,' " he recalled.
Police believe the pair then ran around the corner to 33rd Avenue and hopped in a white 1998 four-door Mercedes-Benz that was parked with the engine running. McNeal, who was nearby, saw the pair jump in the car and ran after it. He grabbed the driver's side door handle and was dragged down the street before the Mercedes-Benz sideswiped a parked Dodge Durango. McNeal hit his head, police said. The impact on the Durango from McNeal left a dent in the vehicle, Honeman said.
McNeal was not the owner of the Mercedes-Benz but was borrowing it from an acquaintance, Honeman said.
The vehicle was spotted by a police officer and Blue and Leonard were arrested near Piper Street at about 5:30 p.m., Honeman said.
Blue was charged with first-degree vehicle theft, second-degree assault, three counts of second-degree theft, criminal mischief, leaving the scene of an accident and fourth-degree misconduct involving drugs.
Leonard was charged with first-degree vehicle theft and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
Wednesday night, both were at the Anchorage jail.
Police are asking anyone with information about the crime to call police at 786-8900. Callers who want to stay anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 561-7867.

Sure, but I'm a fan of "Cops" on TV so I guess I gravitate to this kind of stuff.

What are they still trying to figure out? Seems like there were plenty of witnesses and they caught the two red handed in the stolen car? Maybe there's a reward!!!

Yes yes where is "homeland security" on this? They should raise all our taxes ( for the common good of course)(and for freedom) and put cameras everywhere. That'll stop those lowlifes ( Hope I don't get sued for using that word again!)

Yep... I talked to my brother-in-law from jail in Anchorage... He said that what really pissed his girlfriend off was the dealer offering them $8.00 a piece for two PCGS MS65 Bust Dollars - he said that he thought that I would spit in the dealers' face, too

At least it will make a good excuse for invading Canada.

I assumed. Who would get so bent over a couple of Peace dollars?
But BUST DOLLARS? $8 APIECE? that makes the story even better. I woulda offered them at least Melt!
The began "rustling merchandise"? Isn't that the clue to chase the hombres out of the store and call the sheriff? Why wait until the cash register is moved?
And if you're being dragged by a car, shouldn't you just let go of the door handle?

Apparently not if you borrowed the car and were such an idiot to leave it running. Might as well go for 2.

I am breathlessly awaiting reports from our intrepid on-line news source as to whether or not the dealers driving home from Central States have finally learned the lessons of FUN and the ANA shows, or if they are still leaving their coins out in the car while they pop in for a bite to eat.
