  • The reason why that one girl from W.V. was recognized so highly, although I considered her to be just like any other soldier, if I am not incorrect, is because she was like the first woman wounded in real combat. The same thing can be said about those two soldiers coming back from Yugoslavia or whatever, to a ticker tape parade about a decade ago. But all in all, most soldiers are professional and do a job most others would not even dare to attempt.

    More things that bug me:

    1. The Catholic Church getting their loops into politics and such, and not losing their tax exempt status.
    2. Seeing auctions on eBay, when a seller says a card is in NM condition, and you can see a crease and rounded corners in the picture.
    3. Also, seeing the phrase in an auction, "I do not know anything about cards, but this card is rare!"
    4. When I did shows at the Gibralter Trade Center in Mt. Clemens, MI back in the very early 90s when I was a teenager, and my mom getting upset at me, and saying I am stupid, when I would do things, like buy a two dozen card lot of Yzerman Topps rookies, for $100.
    5. Car insurance companies using one's credit as a factor in one's fees, when in reality, the person pays for the service before he/she gets the coverage.
    6. On that note, people who have the audacity to charge up on their credit cards, and do not pay their bills, causing higher interest rates.
    7. ESPN overhyping the NFL Draft every single year.
    8. "Around the Horn" never saying much about hockey, I feel sorry for Tim Cowlishaw.
    9. The horrible calls during the Red Wings/Oilers game on Thursday night, should've heard Mickey Redmond on a talkshow Friday morning.
    10. Those listing hockey jerseys on eBay as "the same as the pros wear," and when you ask them if there is a fight strap sewn on the back, they get back to you and say, "no!"
    11. Those who think that I should respect another's cultural beliefs, without any regard to mine.
    12. Trying to find out some information on some subject using a search engine, and every third link is a porn site.
    13. Scientologists!
    14. I irked myself thinking back on something, when I put a Rodney Peete Pro-Set rookie card in a $1 screwdown over 15 years ago.
    15. Employers who are not loyal to their long-term employees.
    16. Those who I see driving around with bumper stickers on a newer car, when the best place for them should be on the window.
    17. The Governor of Louisiana, who in part, blamed George Bush for the fiaso in New Orleans, when she herself, had the power to call up National Guard troops.
    18. When I decide to use a sick day at work that can be used for anything I'd like, and my employer wants to know what exactly are my plans when I schedule it, or call in to use it.
    19. Alcoholics and drug abusers having a "disease," but smokers are generally referred to as sinners.
    20. Noticing that not every game for the Detroit Tigers is televised this year, but when a game can be, and it does not conflict with a Pistons or Red Wings game, it is not on, instead, I see an Oklahoma/Nebraska college baseball game.
    21. The media reporting everything that has gone wrong with war efforts, and there is no reporting of anything good that has happened.
    22. Those who do not realise that war, like labor unions, is a necessary evil.
    23. My cable internet seemingly going down once a week, and they want to keep sending me flyers to sign up for their VOIP service.
    24. Getting a dozen AOL disks in the mail every year.
    25. Being on the "do not call list," and I still get calls.
    26. Having to seemingly buy a new mouse every 3 months because the clicker quits working.
    27. "Live Wire" Mountain Dew not being sold in 2-liters.
    28. Those who say I am gross, because one of my favorite meals is "Spaghetti and Clams."
    29. Infomercials, and those who waste their money on them, people do not realise, one can make a very healthy and tasty beef jerky, with a box fan and furnace filters.
    30. PETA, who say that animals should not be eaten, but if they want us all to be vegetarians, they give no thought as to all the worms, moles, and other wildlife, that would be killed should we plow over fields and cut down trees, to sustain human life on plants.

I can go on and on, but I think some on this board will get upset at me, think this may be one of the threads that everyone wants dead!!!

i have a hotel and when guests start acting annoyed :first thing i raise the room rate, then i slow it down to a crawl, then the credit card machine quits working, and then i smile real big and say "i'm sorry".

When 50-something percent of every tax dollar goes to the military I think anyone who pays federal taxes has a right to question whether or not the military is run as efficiently as it should be.

The fact that every flippin' poll at ESPN.com's baseball page is something about the Red Sox and Yankees. Hey, ESPN - there are other teams in baseball. As a matter of fact, there are a few BETTER teams in baseball. I am sick and tired of seeing nothing but Red Sox and Yankees.

People who repeat themselves. They say the same thing over and over and over again.
You know, they say it once and then state it again, maybe just a little differently, but the meaning is the same.

Just go on and on not making a new point but instead just repeating the old one.
They say it once and then say it twice. Like you didn't get it the first time. Or, the second. Nope. Gotta keep stating it even though now it's so obvious.

Second pet peeve? Those who believe there are two types of people in the world. Those who believe there are two types of people in the world and those who don't.

<< <i>people who say the word "brefest" instead of "breakfast". >>

About two and a half years ago, I go into a McDonald's for their breakfast platter. My wife was pregnant at the time and had a craving for Mickey D's pancakes. So, I order two breakfast platters and the girl behind the counter asks me "What d' you want with your brefestes"? I stand their quietly--I wasn't even sure if she was talking to me as she was so incoherent. She asks again, this time louder. "What d' you want with your brefestes--O J ?" I nodded my head. I haven't been back to a McDonald's since. Too disturbing. >>

    I agree.
If anyone called me OJ I wouldn't go back again either.

people who thinks someone is "an idiot" for not having the same belief. Also using the phrase GD and before you get upset I believe the same way you do but each person in america has the freedom to choose what they believe.

People have the freedom to choose? Why cant I smoke in a restaurant?
  • tkd7tkd7 Posts: 1,799 ✭✭

It is your choice to smoke, not where you smoke.
To live as a society, we may lose certain individual freedoms for the benefit of the group.
  • frankhardyfrankhardy Posts: 8,168 ✭✭✭✭✭
Smokers would not like for someone to spit in their coffee would they? It's just as offensive to breathe that nasty stuff when you don't smoke.

    Shane

  • baseballfanaticbaseballfanatic Posts: 2,415 ✭✭
Not an individual freedom, as millions of people will testify to. People were smoking LONG before you didnt want it. Take the tax off of the cigarettes then if the "government" wont allow it.......
  • baseballfanaticbaseballfanatic Posts: 2,415 ✭✭
Thats why this whole thing is joke. Why do your rights come before mine?
  • tkd7tkd7 Posts: 1,799 ✭✭

False. You do not speak for all people..........
  • yankeeno7yankeeno7 Posts: 9,253 ✭✭✭
Lets use this analogy for smoking...

It's legal to own a gun and shoot it in designated areas. Why? Because its safe and no one else gets hurt.
But it's not legal to take that same gun and shoot into a crowd of people. Why? Because someone could get hurt.

I don't think smoking in public areas where peoples health can be damaged is any different.

<< <i>False. You do not speak for all people.......... >>

The majority of the population is non-smoking, but you are right, it doesn't speak for all people. Personally, I think restaurants and bars should be able to purchase a smoking license, just like a liquor license.

I agree that sin taxes are BS, they are much harder on the lower income people.
  • Smokers make a choice to go to a bar or a restaurant, the same as non smokers! If I want to suck on a cancer stick, it is my call, and as long as I am not blowing it in your face, who are you to tell me that I cannot do so. Why does the ACLU not step in on this, file lawsuits, and make every restaurant and bar install ventilation fans that work, in the ceilings. In California, unless I am incorrect, they banned smoking on beaches, I can see that if litter has been a problem, but I do not get the point of that if not.

If I am not allowed to have a smoke in public (the way it is beginning to look), then ugly and fat people should not be allowed out in public, I hate looking at them, there are doctors that can fix them up! What about those people that let out the secretly deadly farts, I find it offensive to smell those (unless they are mine), perhaps they should be put on trial, some make my eyes water and I cough! Fat women in spandex should be banned! All religious factions should speak ONLY in church, and shut the hell up the rest of the time, they offend me!

If I should be considerate of others, than those people should be considerate to my wishes too! One may say, "oh, second had smoke causes cancer!" Well, fat people cause me to want to vomit, and the church causes my level of stress and hatred to rise!
  • yankeeno7yankeeno7 Posts: 9,253 ✭✭✭
The problem is that unfortunately many people are not considerate. That's one part of the reason why smoking in public places is not allowed by law in such states as California and New York.
  • frankhardyfrankhardy Posts: 8,168 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Ok, I've got another one.

I am collecting Topps Sets from 1975 (my birth year) to the present. I am putting them all in albums and pages. It bugs me that (in the 90's) some cards in the same set are vertical, and some are horizontal. Be consistent Topps. Either make them all vertical, or all horizontal. 1997 is especially weird. Most of the cards are vertical, but the ones that have pictures that are horizontal, the name is upside down. So, you either have an upside down name, or a name at the top of the card when it's supposed to be at the bottom. image

I know this is an old thread, but I just re-read some of it and got a good laugh. I thought I would bring it back up for new people on the boards.

Now, someone go ahead and say how it bugs you when people bring back threads that are over 2 years old!

  • Stone I can totally sympathize with you....I argue with my wife over the size of her shoe collection all the time (and she's only got about 50 pairs).

The agreement we've reached is that for every $ she spends on shoes and clothes each month, I get to spend a $ on sports cards.

    No worries hardcorehockeyfan,

Question: What is worse, smokers or dippers?

If you chose dippers, that is fine. Just let me know what beer/coffee cup to spit into when I walk by. I want to make sure you get the second hand hazards non-smokers take on every time we go to bars. Just let me know.

By the way…I stopped dipping almost five months ago. But it would still be fun.
