Heritage Auction Descriptions are so FOS!

" Virtually full red, perhaps mellowing somewhat after encapsulation. Well detailed with a few minor carbon speckles noticed over each side. Population: 60 in 64, 15 finer (3/06)."

Are you kidding me? that coins is RB and 63RB all day long. they are really opening themselves to the fraud status. If I purchased that coin, on the description and did not get a FULL refund I would be livid.

Thats just the way it is in any type of sales. I don't care if its coins, cars, lawyer ads, or anything else. It's up to the consumer to look through all the hype and see if it's a good deal for him.

Thats my take on it anyway.

here's how i look at auction descriptions, anything other than a glowing A+ desc. littered w/ over-the-top adjectives and other numismatic fluff constitutes a red flag. That description constitutes one giant red flag as noted by the following key words: "virtually full red", "mellowing somewhat", "few minor carbon speckles" ie) dog.

My guess is there will be a FEW coins going back. I know of three that were not even close to the descriptions and photos provided!

I have to confess, that my last coin was better than the pic and description, that at first I thought they sent me the WRONG coin. That is how much I trust their pics and descriptions.

Whenever I see the work "mellow", I know it's a signal for RB.

the only thing worse that I can recall would be a wine description. Ever have a gymnastic red wine? Some of the ladies who drank the wine, sure. However, the wine itself. No, sorry.

In my experience, both photographs and scans can be deceiving and make the coin look either more or less attractive than it really is. There is no substitute for examining lots in person, either by yourself or a trusted agent.
