Liberating Sacs

Hi, Everyone.

I take a van to work every morning. This morning I paid part of my fair with a Sackie. The bus driver took it, and said, "Oh cool! I've got a whole jar of these at home. I keep them in a big jar." He sounded excited about collecting.

I was struck by two things:

1) You never know who's a collector.
2) Those Sacs he's got in that jar are probably all beat to hell by now. I've got one I dumped in a change tin that I have in my living room, and when I recently retrieved it, it was VF, easy.
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

Whenever I can I get rolls of Sac dollars just to spend. It's amazing to see how many people that have never seen one. Once someone at a fast food place thought I was trying to scam them and I had to talk to a manager to get the coin accepted.

I don't like the design much. I think the size and shape reminds me too much of a Chuck E. Cheese token. But it still beats the hell out of the rag dollar.

I paid for my lunch with eight SACs about two weeks ago. It was obvious the young girl taking the money had never seen them before - she looked at them, but would not look up at me. I could tell she was having a hard time deciding what to do. She didn't want to offend me, but she was not sure that was real money. Some woman behind me said "hey those are SAC dollars can I have them". I explained to the girl that they were indeed real money and were just not seen very often. She thought that was "neat".

So far, fast food places DO NOT like me. Everytime I get something, I pay with half dollars, dollar coins and two dollar bills.....I think it is funny!! They however, are not amused. image
Great transaction with: Relaxn, Collectorcoins, OKCC

I spend SBA's so often the fast food places around me have gotten used to them. I don't know if they like them or not, but most of the time they actually seem to be excited to see them.

I just wish they would stop making the one dollar bill. That is the ONLY way the dollar coin will ever be circulated. It has worked just fine in Canada and Barbados.

My mother is from Barbados, when I was a kid they had a paper dollar and no dollar coin. Now they have a dollar coin about the size of the SBA (but it actually has seven sides, not round). The coins circulate freely with no complaints.

The last time I went to Barbados I brought an old Barbados dollar bill with me. When I went to spend it, the young girl behind the counter told me it was not real, then an older women reached over and took it, she said it was real and she collected them... You never know who the collectors are, or where.

Over the past few years I've managed to stash about a 1000 Sacs. I sure hope I've snagged a least one CSac.

    Will start looking soon.

Anything else I should be looking for ???

I usually grab a few Sackies when we make a day-trip to NYC. I use them to buy roasted peanuts from the street vendors. Never get a second look from them. They must get them regularly.

It's great paying for food at McDonald's using SBA's, Sacs, and Kennedy's all at the same time. Their eyes light up like I'm either:

    A) Paying with fakes
    B) Spending rare coins

It's one of those "priceless" moments in life.

I sure wish that more people would stash them away instead of trying to palm them off on me. That way I wouldn't have to look at them.

I bought close to 2,000 dollar coins from my bank a while back to look through. Found 4 cheerios sacs and a near-date SBA! Just kidding about the cheerios sacs. I spend them at the local Taco Bueno (they know me quite well now), use them in the automated checkouts at Home Depot and groceries and leave them as tips at restaurants. I'll get rid of them eventually!

I had a roll of Sacs the other week and I was amazed at how cr*ppy most of the look, dull and beat up. I got rid of most of them at the local pizza parlour and the girl behind the counter didn't know if she could take them but the manager really wanted them and took them off her straight away, he told me he uses them all the time as tips when he eats out.

If I ever get them, or Susie B's for that matter, I always use them in the church collection. I'm sure they won't complain.
