grading help on 1879 chile 20c

The advice I got hear was not to clean any coins...this one could use some kind of a bath. The scan doesn't show as much detail as one can see with the coin in hand. Is it too far gone or is there any value in it?

It is the less valuable version of that date and may be worth about a dollar in that condition (G?) so cleaning it in soapy water or in acetone with minimal rubbing shouldn't make much of a difference. When clean, the wear will be more apparent and probably the fact that it has been cleaned as well.

A l'il light rub with a paper towel or Kleenex should get the loose grime off the coin without shining it up unnaturally.
