I think the rat lives here

Ebay has canceled another auction of mine. I listed these two coins sunday night and put a note in the listing that i would take paypal as long as it was not from a credit card. My first coin was dropped yesterday morning after i put the two coins on the B/S/T forums and the other wasn't. I bumbed my ad on the forum earlier today and now the other one was canceled. I didn't know this was against ebay rules and i will not do it anymore, but i really think that the person that reported this lives here on the forums. I think it takes a sorry person to just sit around and look for things like this. If the listing was trying to hurt or rip someone off i could see turning the listing in, but this would not have hurt anyone and i wouldn't have done it anymore after they dropped my one auction. I thought i could change it, but yesterday i tried to see if it could be done and i couldn't see how.

I thought that this thread title was an interesting one for a coin forum... Any confessors out there?

I didn't understand the issue the first time you posted it, and still don't. What did you do wrong, and how can someone here get you in trouble when it's ebay?image

This is one of those deals here where you can just feel the pm's flying. "Who did it?" "Did you did it?" "I didn't did it!" "What should I say?" "Dunno, what should I say?" Sort of like when the dealers all come to the defense of another one, all with the same reason why it's OK, whatever unethical deed was doneimage"OK, we got our stories straight? Let's roll!"

It's against eBay rules to state that you will accept payment via Paypal but not by credit card. This is eBay's way of being greedy as they own Paypal. If you have the basic Paypal account and are unable to accept credit cards then Paypal doesn't take a percentage out of the money that goes in and out of your account. eBay requires you to accept credit cards if you sell on eBay and use Paypal...thus giving Paypal (eBay) more money from more fees.

If eBay finds you are in violation of this policy they will cancel your auction. I believe what rgwill is incinuating is that one of the memebers of this forum saw his auction(s) on the BST and noticed that he was in violation of the eBay policy and reported rgwill to eBay. Resulting in the cancelation of both his auctions. The timing between him bumping his BST thread and the cancellation of his second auction lead him to this conclusion.

It usually takes eBay forever and a day to act on a complaint so I don't particularly agree with the timing thing. The actual complaint could have been lodged at any time.

No, I'm pretty sure it's the collectors' fault. Every time... image

There are plenty of rats scurrying around this place. I discovered that a couple years ago when I posted about a nice eBay rip before I'd received the coin. Suddenly, the seller couldn't find it.

They tend to respond very quickly to issues that involve them not getting their slice.

It's the nature of this forum to tattle-tale on every eBay infraction that members come across. In fact, it's generally encouraged- unless of course the collector committing the wrong is a member here. The cry, "reported!!" rings in the halls of these forums.

Mothers eat their young. Collector loyalty is wafer thin.

On a related note, it doesn't take long to realize the coin better be in hand with feedback exchanged before the bragging, show and tell takes place here.

Now, should your paypal fee avoidance infraction have been reported? No, probably not.

Edited to add: It shouldn't come as any surprise or even disapointment it was.

Someone mentioned that they think that ebay might have some kind of word recognition program because some of these auctions with your type of guidelines (which to happen to be against the rules) are getting cancelled extremely quickly.

That's what I think. It wouldn't be hard for them to just automatically search for Forbidden Text™ as auctions are listed and report them automatically to someone who reviews them and pushes the red button. Make a non-searchable "no credit cards" icon for your auctions and see if they get killed as fast.

Reporting deceptive practices like keyword spamming and altered or counterfeit coins sold as genuine protects other collectors. Reporting Forbidden Text™ that only helps eBay seems petty.

I broke a rule (regardless of how stupid it might be) - but I want to be mad at someone else, because I couldn't have possibly done something wrong.

Handwrite a note that says "I do not take credit cards via Paypal". Take a photo of that note and include the pic in with the pics of the item you are selling. No word searching program will catch it.

Leave paypal out of your auction.
Say "other payment methods possible, please contact seller prior to auction close" or something to that effect.
Then say you are willing to take paypal w/o credit card.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

This is exactly how I run my auctions. I'm a really small fish and I got fed up with the PayPal fees, so I stopped accepting PayPal. I take Money orders or cashiers checks. I know this is a pain in the butt for some... they're probably not bidding on my auctions.
