Do dealers pay bird dog fees?

Twice in the last four months people have come to me and stated that they had inherited collections and might like to liquidate them. I'm a collector, but don't have a lot of knowledge about series that I don't collect nor deep enough pockets to buy a large accumulation just for the sake of buying a bunch of "stuff", however nice it might be.

There are a couple of dealers in my area who could and would look at these collections. If they make a deal, would I be out of line to ask for a referral fee? I wouldn't want money, maybe a nice shiny coin or two that might fit in my collection.

If a fee is in order, who should pay? The dealer or the seller?

Thanks in advance!!
How 'bout them DAWGs!

Most dealers are happy to pay finder fees. Just be sure to negotiate something specific in advance.
