It must have been cleaned before it was placed in an album and allowed to tone. It sold for $2300 at the Stacks sale, and considering this guy's feedback, it's a good one to avoid.
The pic doesn't do much for me...it looks a little washed out. I'm sure she's a stunner in hand , however. We can commiserate about that $1500 together.
yes raw. It may have been body bagged for an old cleaning. It has the look of the coins that came out of the Buffalo Hist. Soc. sale last year. While impressive looking on the obv it does appear to have been well cleaned at one time and placed back in an album (the reverse has that odd dull gray-white look). Highpoints (thigh, breast, cheek, drapery folds) are all well rubbed. The luster is probably somewhat weak as well. Way too much knee rub for my taste but this is becoming commonplace in MS63-64 holders. I'd recommend holding out for the ones that have no such rub.
It would be an impressive coin if it had the technical luster and lack of rub that a MS63 should. And a coin I'd love to purchase too. Have been looking for a rub free and orig choice UNC A&R half for the past 2 years.

You're not the only one. Tough coin, to be sure.
FWIW, I don't like the A&R coin pictured here at all...Mike

One suspects it's not for lack of trying
