Why does this coin look like "crackle" paint?

This whole surface look like paint crackle finish. What would do that to a silver coin?

Perhaps it's toning over really porous surfaces....

An overly compressed image will do that to any coin

Bad camera or more likely it's been buried and cooroded-- looks a lot like tough CC silver issues that show up sometimes that were picked by metal detectorists.

Best to ask the seller a very specific question. Hard to tell much from those photos.

Jeremy nailed this one. What you are seeing are jpeg artifacts. It is also plainly seen in the upper edge of the coin (looks like a stairstep or a block pyramid instead of a smooth curve)...Mike

I think it's more than JPEG artifact as the file is 63K. If it were 6K, then I'd believe it. I go along with the corroded surfaces theory, too.
