  • Both are medallic issues from Belgium. The top one is is 5 Francs, minted in silver, coppper and gold. The bottom one is 10 Centimes "Marriage of Duke and Ducchess of Brabant", copper, large and small date varieties.

The one with the hole is a Medallic Issue 5 Francs celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Independence (1830-1880). Assuming that it is copper it is catalogued in Krause as M9a. This also appears in Silver and Gold.

The second one is a Medallic Issue 10 Centimes (assuming Copper - 32mm) celebrating the Marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Brabant. Catalogued in Krause as M5.1 or M5.2 based on the size of the date. This also appears as 5 Francs in Silver and 100 Francs in Gold. I have one of these in Copper.

  • thank you...wish I could view kraus, but our library only has "World Coins" for the 1900's. The metal of the medal on the top is confusing, it's tarnished, but is golden in color inside the hole. How do I tell what metal the medal is made of?
    The second is definately copperimageimage
