Got this email from PayPal this morning:

It has come to our attention that you may be the recipient of potentially unauthorized funds. We have initiated an investigation into this event. In the meantime, we have placed a temporary hold on the funds in question until the investigation is complete. This temporary hold will show as a deduction in your available balance. In the meantime, you are free to continue transacting using your PayPal account.

Transaction Date: 16 Mar. 2006 07:12:47 GMT
Transaction Amount: $30.47 USD
Payor's Email: carolinescoins@hotmail.com

If you have not delivered the goods or services related to this transaction, we ask that you delay or stop delivery until our investigation is complete as you may be liable for the amount in question.

Well it took PayPal 5 weeks to let me know about this? Of course the coin was already sent. What am I to do? Hold a coin for 5 weeks before shipping to make sure the payment was valid eventhough payment came via a PayPal account? I am liable for the amount in question? PayPal sent the payment through the first time. PayPal does suck royally but it is the best alternative for those who ship overseas.

5 weeks?!? You gotta be kidding me. PayPal needs to take this loss, not you. Ridiculous! image

Edit to add: be glad it's only 30 bucks I guess

THAT is really a raw deal!!! What is statute of limitations for PayPal to extract money from you? 2 months? 1 year? imageimageimage

Does anyone have a good follow up comment for me to leave against them? My negative is still visible on their "About Me" page.

I have been hit with a couple of those chargebacks as well. They slither out of it by saying that you didn't mail to a "verified" address, and since 99 percent of overseas addresses are "non-verified", they have you by the short hairs image. I guess it's just a cost of doing business...

Don, I'm sorry to hear of your problems... you sold them a coin and it didn't arrive? Did they ever contact you? I can't seem to find references and their feedback is private.

PayPal is now saying they didn't have the funds to pay for the item or whatever.

Isn't it a paypal rule that you can't file a complaint like this until 30 days after sale. That would explain the 5 weeks that paypal and the seller took. I really would have expected him to contacy you before filing a complain for money backimage

Umm... apples and oranges. This wasn't a complaint for not receiving the merchandise. Rather the buyer used a stolen credit card or something similar. The fact that the funds were stolen/unauthorized doesn't come to light until LONG after the merchandise ships, and the seller is left taking it in the shorts.

Be glad it was only $30....

  • Is there a paypal rule stating 'oh by the way we can do this, long after you ship the coin, but if you decide to wait a few weeks to "be sure you are safe from getting burned" the buyer can complain and say they never recived the coin , but you want to be safe and say there will be a week to 2 or 3 just to be sure before I send the coin, which makes all the buyers want to wait image I doubt it, so your sales go down, and feedback is not to good , ,it all seems like such a BAD paypal policy even though they are still not NARU'D

  • I have had a problem with Investcoins2003, I paid for a coin which had not arrived when the bad feedback started. Althought it had only been about 10 day and Invest usually take a good couple of weeks because they courier the coins into the UK before they go into the postal system I filed a not arrived complaint. Ten days later £430 was returned to my Paypal account then my credit card. Does this mean I have not been burnt this time or does it mean that the light at the end of the tunnel is just the big Paypal screwing monster carrying a torch. Can paypal retrieve it again if Invest don't have the funds.
