VG and about $90. I think Canadian Trends is high on this coin.

  • thank you... another question you may be able to answer...how do you tell what metal the 1859 canadian cent is made of?

It is highly unlikely you have a brass 1859 cent. I have only seen one in my lifetime. They are brighter in color if I remember correctly.

    Agreed!

Check out Bosox's sig line for pix of his brassie. The color is greenish yellow as opposed to brownish red.

  • probably shouldn't have, but used a little tomato juice on the rim of one 1859 1c, and it's not copper...both my grandfathers owned banks, one in Minnesota, one in wisconsin, they both had immigrated through Canada...both collected coins. I've only opened up one roll of canadian nickels, 1925-1927, and 2 out of three 1926's are far 6...my guess is there'll be more key dates.
my 8 yo daughter seems to have a sixth sense. I told her she could keep any coins she liked, and without any knowledge of coins she pointed to all the key date coins in nice condition and said "can I keep these?" Earlier this evening she was lurking on this website with me and has picked out some pretty coins she'd like to have...she also thinks that the "lady" on the 1859's is pretty and wants those.
I thought I'd be getting rid of all these coins, but it looks like I may have a collector in the family, and we'll be doing some trading.
