What are your thoughts about dealers that set up at shows, but are only buying?

Never encountered that, but I attend very few shows of late. My opinion is that they payed for their space, and can do whatever they want. Actually I think it is a positive, if it were publicized in advance. You can go to a show to hunt and potentially sell at the same time.

I had an unsavory encounter with Alan Rosen about 10 years ago. He is absolutely insulting with his attitude and opinions on your items and suggested values. That's his gig - and he will maintain that approach. He hits on the unknowing who believe what he says and regret it later.

No, nothing to do with Mr. EX/NM. I was personally considering doing this and was hoping that people did not view this practice as negative.

i see no problem with the practice. as long as you do not act mr mintish.

many people go to shows for that very reason (to sell) to dealers.

    Good luck

There are about 5 dealers that set up at the Canadian Expo strictly for buying. Most deal with the high end products and that is all they want. I think it is a good idea but you should be specific about what you want and be prepared for plenty of people showing you late 1980's and early 1990's stuff that they want to sell.

I've thought of doing it myself. I agree that lots of people go to shows hoping to sell, but no dealers seem to make it easy. I would think you could buy pretty well at big shows - but agree that signage about what you are buying would make it easier for all involved.
