Have you been shorted on shipping?

I sold a card on E-Bay. My auction clearly stated $5 shipping. You can debate whether is that too much but let's move past that. I pride myself on shipping the next day in a nice, safe sealed manner after payment has cleared. If it is by pay pal it goes out the next day as I make time from work to go to the post office. I have 100% feedback, so I am no hero but I do stuff out in a timely manner.

Anyway I get the check ten days after the auction ended and he has added only $2 for shipping. It was not a mistake as he sent a detailed note of how the costs broke down. I know some of you are thinking $3 what's the difference, but.......

I deposited the check today and sent the buyer a note asking why he shorted me? Should I tell him when the check clears he can send me the other $3 to get the card? Should I forget about it and ship it as crappy as I can? He is not new to ebay but has a feedback under 100, with 100% positive. It was for a $26 card.

Any opinions please share.

Depends: Do you want to present your philosophical argument [which I probably agree with] and get a negative? Or do you just want to send him the card and have the problem go away, esp. after you put him on your blocked bidders list?

I would just ship to him and forget it, even though it does suck...
  • Ship it using a $2.00 shipping method.

That's tough, though. $2.00 is really pushing it, especially if you use a bubble envelope and D/C. Talk about cheap...
  • Option 1 - Package it well but only put a 39 cent stamp on it. Allow him to go to the post office and pay the difference in shipping.

Option 2 - Allow a sick child to play with and sneeze on it. Then send it his way.

Option 3 - Send him a detailed note explaining the costs that he agreed to when he bid on your card. I can't go into McDonalds, order a Big Mac Value Meal and then hand them $1 and a breakout of the costs involved. The only place I hear this works is at a car dealership or with a prostitute.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I would email him and ask him if he'd like to remit another check for 3.00 . If he says no, then tell him you will be cashing it and refunding all of his money except the postage to return a check to him. People like this bidder really tick me off.

When he bid he did so and knew full well what your shipping charges were. He has no right to try and strong arm you after the deal.

I would not hesitate to give this bidder a negative either.

Please post a link so I can block this person.

I agree with mikeschmidt. Send the card first class (instead of priority if you were going to do that) put the guy on your blocked bidders list and be done with it.

i do have $28 of the $31 he owes and i have the card. all he can do is negative feedback me and i can do the same.
  • Was it just 1 or 2 cards? If it was put them both in top loaders to provide protection. Put the top loaders into a bubble mailer with delivery confirmation. Make sure that the bubble mailer does not come close to being 3/4 inch thick. Use the self-weigh station, pay the proper postage and put it in the drop box. He'll end up owing about $3.10 when the postman drops it off because of the delivery conf.

    Cheers! Wick

I would do as mikeschmidt sugggests, including a nice note about appreciating his business, and then hope he gives feedback first.

    theczar,
he cannot detail your handling cost which i am sure is part of the $5 shipping. dont ship until he pays you the difference. your shipping charges are not up for discussion with this jerk.
  • You might let it pass this time, because he might end up bidding on more of your stuff in the future and end up bumping up the final price of another one of your items. If you have to drive to the post office to drop it off (for example if you live in an apartment), you can burn gas money really quick!

Send him a Rusty Kuntz card instead...

That really makes you want to send him an empty envelope. It is infuriating that he would enter into an agreement and then try to strongarm you into changing the terms. What an effen scumbag! Send the SOB his GD card. Repress your urges to punch him in the CS. Block him from all of your auctions. Give us his username so that I can block him from all of my emeffen auctions. I don't care if I ever do business with a person like that or if he ever increases the sale price on one of my cards. This is my hobby, and it galls me to no end that there are people like that who would force their way into my recreational time. Good luck with this AHole.

Next time something like that happens, drop the check in the shredder, wait ten days and email him asking where your $X.XX total is. Just pretend you never saw his stupid check.

Sorry for all of the initials, but with an 18 month old in the house, it has become habit.

Sometimes lil things bother us more then big things.

Send the card and use the 2.00 towards the shipping. A used bubble mailer with 63 cents of postage will get the guy his card. If you want you can even spring for the del confirmation. (that is if the counter person will allow it on a bubble mailer. some do, some do not. at most you are out 1.25 of the 2.00 he sent.

    is 3.00 worth the aggravation?

Send him the card in a bubble mailer with DC, don't leave any feedback, and block him from every bidding on your auctions again.
I charge 4.50-5.50 per card, and ship boxed priority with insurance. Your charges are certainly reasonable, and if he didn't agree with them he didn't have to bid- you clearly spelled them out.
    I blocked him as well.

i agree steve that $3 doesn't even get you a gallon of gas, a beer at the ball park, or a 2nd look from a hot looking c-cktail (first half of word forbidden in forums!) waitress in a casino when you tip her. i have blown $400 on a card 1966 psa card that had a pop 3, and seven months later it was a pop 15 selling for $36. but....the bottom line was that was my choice.

he will get his card...eventually. i won't damage the case, but my letter carrier knocks on my door at least twice a week with stuff to sign, i take care of him at Christmas so i will get his opinion on the best way for this fine buyer to get his card in the most expensive shipping manner that i can find that he will have to pay for.

this buyer probably keeps a tally of how many seller he has pinched here and there and is proud of it.

for those who want to block him, here he is. by his feedback you would have never guessed it.

be sure to use Delivery Confirmation or the fool may try to stiff you for the whole $28 claiming he never got the card.

Cut your loss and move on.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
  • He paid $5.00 shipping for this bottle cap auction and $4.00 on a $2.99 auction?

On your auction description state not to bid if they don't agree with your shipping charge.

This guy won an auction for a 1970 Topps Rose card PSA 6 from Bbcexchange for $1.29. I wonder if he stiffed them on the S/H as well. Bbcexchange charges $7.00 for s/h.

I would send him an email telling him you received partial payment of X and there is a balance due of Y and the card will be shipped upon receipt of the balance due.

most people take shipping charges into consideration when bidding. if your stated shipping charges were $2.50 then you may have gotten a few more dollars for the card. your charges are clearly stated and i'd make him honor them.
  • Dont let him push you around. I am sick of these types of buyers. they dont pull this with the sears catalog. why should they try and pull it on you? stand up for whats right, and either refund his money minus return shipping or tell him to pay you the extra $3.

  • An e-mail is free.

I agree that sending him a message asking about the 3 bucks is in order. Copy him with a link to the Ebay invoice. If he made a mistake then he'll fess up. If he is bluffing in order to save the 3 bucks he may back down.

After that, make your decision. I would probably send him the card but not let him bid again.

if he doesnt send you the difference or if he argues any further, send his money back and relist the card. block him of course. i already did. he is absolutely not worth your time to deal with. personally i would cancel it as soon as he shorted me. shipping isnt negotiable after the fact. (your time, gas, trouble etc.) he knew the cost before he bid so tough chit. i have no problem if someone charges me $12 etc shipping on one card if it was clearly stated. i adjust my bid accordingly. whatanass! who would want his business. not me.

on second thought I have to agree with those that say people bid with shipping in mind. You can email him and state that 3.00 is still due and upon receipt of the dough the card will be sent.

Or you can refund him the money minus the fees you have to pay too.

    Bbcexchange charges $7.00 for s/h.

dabig, I think you meant to say 4.00?

Looking at his bids historically, perhaps he really did misread the auction details and miswrote the shipping amount. Is this possible?
