New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I would tend to agree with that. I think if it were actually a die variety, the extension would be more convex and thicker. It's actually rather thin and flat.

russ, your name for it portrays it accurately.
i agree, start the promotion by selling that one on
ebay with all CAPS and L@@K
I think you should call it the 5th leg.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
<< <i>Looks like a gouge similar to the Wisconsin quarters. It is definitely not on the US Mint website renderings of the Nevada quarter. Start promoting it. >>
There are Wisconsin quarters with gouges? Cool, tell us more!

About how far away from the coins was the camera when you took those?

Full view shots, about four inches. Closeups, about an inch.

Well, I haven't shipped it back yet.

risk of insulting a mint technician ), it shows no artistic talent. If it appeared in the exact same
rolls as a similar "mark" affecting a different area and displaying artistic talent then I would have
great interest in it and expect it to remain collectible (have legs as it were). As is, it seems impro-
bable that this one can get more than temporary interest.
Great pictures and many thanks to the discoverer to get these up here. Good luck with them.
The one I sent you keep. Don't send it back.
We can call them BENT LEGS

Now you said your collecting was not motivated by making money on Mark's thread; now which is it?.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
It looks like we have some mint employees doing some nice detailed work...................
I do not see anything, but eh wtf do I know
and those are nice pics Russ
edit to add:
Conder was nice enough to point out what I should be looking for. I find that quite interesting now I can see it, not sure why some are saying die chip. It appears so perfect it almost looks as if it were done on purpose, just like the low/hi leaves.
without proof anything said here is speculative, but its cool and I want one

I've got it! "Broke Back Leg" Quarter!
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
<< <i>This "error" is not just on the P mints, I got one yesterday in change that is a D mint and it has the EXACT same problem!!! >>
It does look like a weak area of the die which might be prone to chipping. Perhaps there'll even be a proof version.
I found some more of these.
<< <i>Lucky placement for a die chip >>
I agree.

Quality on these are awful. Most of the die cracks come from the Bottom Left side of Washington's Bust.
