I went to the bank yesterday......

and bought home some goodies:
My slabbed Zar coins ( not including the 7 getting slabbed at the moment ) & 4 odd coins ( USA, Dutch & German ):

My Eliasberg collection ( I have 4 more on the way ):

My 1980 Proof Sovereign set:

And part of my Rijksdaalder set ( this folder also houses my ZAR silver collection ):

As you can see I am still having trouble with that 50K limit.
Anyhow just thought that I'd photograph these and post them as they are heading back to safety this afternoon so it'll be a while before I see them again.

What's the Saint's date?

DPOTD 3
The Saint is an 1911-D MS65.
"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." -Luke 11:9
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." -Deut. 6:4-5
"For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us." -Isaiah 33:22
The holders etc were bought in a specialist coin shop so I would assume that they sell PVC free holders.
How can I make 100% sure ? There is nothing mentioned on the boxes that the holders came in.
Here is a Hartberger coin-killer:

What's an Acetone rinse - where can I buy it & how do I do it ?
Is there a decent web based supplier for Mylar flips in Europe ?
Dr J
My omnicoin collection (or how my coin photography has progressed)
I had an eye on them for a while and eventually saw one locally but the guy was charging an arm & a leg for it. I ended up getting it on the bay. In hindsight I should have just rang Chards but it's a set I'll have for life so it doesn't really matter anyway.
I can't make out the Eliasberg Gold .
Can you provide a brief list.

Any ideas? I have bathed a few coins in the past with acetone to remove a sticky greenish film and would like to know more on the subject.
Thanks!

I am into baseball card collecting and more of an expert in that arena compared to this and I can say with confidence that there are "preservation" products out there that have no business in the hobby.
If they do not serve the collector's interest, they have no business being in business ripping off unsuspecting newbies who try and do what's best for their collection.
I am a bit surprised that this Dutch company is the way it is. Usually, Germany and the Netherlands don't make junk like this. If they do, the well educated public can quickly clamp down on this sort of company and drive it to its demise.
The Dutch and the Germans are well educated and informed collectors often criticizing the preservation junk that gets through to American collectors. I buy my capsules from Germany even though I live in Southern California. Actually, I have been under the tutelage of an expert German collector who got me started in this hobby in the first place.

I agree with you, Geist, that such products have absolutely no place in numismatics, and the producers and spreaders of the disease should be drawn and quartered.
