Zip: 44512

The first was my 6 free. Pleased overall. Very tough on the rub off. No way the 68 OPC is trimmed. The second submission is modern bulk and was turned around in 3 business days! Pretty happy with the OPC grades. Was hoping for a 9 on a couple.

  • A '68 OPC Stargell trimmed, what a surprise! Between myself and another collector, we've submitted about eight copies.

Those are some nice grades on the Stargells. The 1970, 1974 and 1976 OPC have been very tough for me to find in good shape for Perez. I have also suffered the trimmed 1968 OPC.

LOL on your '68 Stargell being trimmed. As if there are thousands of sinister Stargell trimmers out there in Canada.

Send it back, CU will get another fee which is what they're looking for, and then you'll get the grade you're looking for.

Other board members can attest to this better than me - but I think the '68 Stargell OPC card runs short. Nearly 95% of all the copies ever seen are different sizes than other OPCs - and PSA has been reluctant to grade any of them. I know a handful of them have been submitted multiple times, as 67standup can describe.

    Mike - I agree.

I get frustrated by CU's apparent unwillingness to acknowledge that certain cards of certain issues may run short. I understand that a conservative approach may be the safest, but it means that many cards that may not be trimmed go ungraded and that is unfair to many collectors who may have an authentic card.

Perhaps the technology to detect actual trimming work on a card will improve in the future and this will change.

The irony on the 68 is that it was returned last time as too short. I have 17 copies of this card, all that would be NM or better and all are short. If that card is always short, should there not be another on the same sheet that would be too large? And If so, does it get rejected disproportionately. Since that is how they came from the factory, isn't PSA being a bit too tough on this?

Kimo75: The problem is precisely this: You, JEB and 67standup may all be experts on the 1968 OPC Stargell card. There are probably few other people on this planet who are. Certainly no one in PSA's grading room is.

Does anyone know how SGC or GAI grade this card?

I agree with Mikeschmidt on the recognized experts on the Stargell's. Overall those are pretty nice grades for the OPCs. I just got a Yaz submission back with several OPCs, you did better on grades.

It helps that I'm a hoarder by nature and have about 10 of each year to choose from!

As hard as the 68 OPC Stargell is for measurement, the 67 OPC Stargell is ridiculously hard to find centered. I have 9, I think, and every one is about 80/20.

Does anyone know if PSA will grade the 1963 IDL cards?
