He is good....but the best? .................No.
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!
  • The guy on Spanish-speaking Univision who goes "Gooooooooooooooooooal"!!!

    Vin Scully

    Harry Caray
    Curt Gowdy
    Joe Gargiola

    1. Vin Scully
    2. Jack Buck

After those two, it starts to pale.

    Shane

  • I love Scully and Buck, but grew up with Jack Brickhouse. And you can never go wrong with Ernie Harwell.

Regarding Heinsohn, and assuming basketball, he is one of the best commentators I have heard. But as far as broadcasting, I like Marv Albert for b-ball.

Yes, Jack Buck. I'll keep adding to the list as I think of them. Here it is now:

    Vin Scully
    Jack Buck
    Harry Caray
    Curt Gowdy
    Joe Gargiola

    Chick Hearn
    Keith Jackson (Whoa Nelly!)
    Al Michaels

Now I like our Red Sox guys (Remy, Orsillo, Tribiano, Castiglione), but they are a notch below the all time greats above.

It really depends on the sport... Chick Hearn for Basketball. I remember the days in the 60's when he did the LA Lakers games... he was something else.

Dick Enberg was great for Baseball but I always thought Vin Schully was better. Don Drysdale was very good as a broadcaster for Baseball.

Henry Longhurst for Golf... for Football... it is tough

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

  • Dan Shulman was a spectacular broadcaster here in Canada. Then ESPN came in and scooped him up.

Axtell - only he is about 15 minutes behind the action image

  • All homer broadcasters are annoying unless it's your team. I like Jon Miller...
  • Bob Uecker has always been entertaining.
  • When I lived near Seattle I loved hearing Kevin Calabro and Marcus Johnson do the Soncis games. They were by far the best team I have ever heard. Great chemistry. Not sure when but I know both have parted ways. I hear Calabro every so ofter doing other NBA games.
    Am I speaking Chinese?

Well hell, let's throw in Chris Schenkel for his nearly 30 years of riveting coverage for ABC of the Pro Bowler's Tour!!

Uecker is the best sportscaster in movies and on commercials, bar none. His classics:

"I must be in the front rooooowwww"

    "He missed the tag!!"

    "Juuussst a bit outside . . . . ."
