How to scan items w/reflective surfaces?

I just picked up a new scanner (Canon 4200F). I'm pretty happy with the scans so far except for the reflective areas. Say like some of the Topps Finest cards or cards with chrome looking logos or names.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't really know of any trick when it comes to cards with those types of surfaces. Mine always look bad.

I place a large dark-colored, usually black or blue, piece of plain paper or construction paper/cardboard over the card. I crop the photo and leave a bit of the paper part which also serves as a nice background. This often does the trick. Hope this helps.
