Joe Morgan....

goose3goose3 Posts: 11,471 ✭✭✭
is he THE most damn annoying announcer on the face of the earth or what?

Mr. Obvious ought to be his name.

  • Actually, I quite like Joe Morgan ... then again, maybe my standards are low. I live in Canada and have been listening to some pretty bad Blue Jays analysts.

    Goose:

Couldn't agree more. I have never enjoyed watching games with Mr know it all Morgan doing the games.

    Peace

    45% complete.
  • I'll take Morgan over Tim MacCarver any day.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

I AGREE!!! I can't stand listening to Joe Morgan! A great second basemen but a horrible commentator. No kidding....I have purposely not watched games because I can't take listening to him.
I caught about 1 inning of the Giants game the other night and good ole Joe was giving his professional opinions on Barry's poor dilemma and pressure from the steroid controversy AND telling his reasons why Barry isnt hitting well so far. At least I got a laugh listening to his opinions on both because they were so rediculous.
Didnt take me long to turn the TV.

It's too bad he does the Sunday night games because Jon Miller is so outstanding.

I wish it would give you the option of muting just Morgan.
  • Nobody is worse than Chris Berman. Hes a blowhard who makes himself, not the game, the center of attention.

I'd take anyone in the world over Pete Van Weiran and Skip Carey on WTBSimage

I like Morgan, and Jon Miller is fantastic. Harry Kalas is the best of all of them.

I cannot stand Berman, Madden, Chris Wheeler (Philly guy)

I cannot stand Joe Morgan. He is one of the worst. I would like take his midget body and drop kick him.
I hate you Joe Morgan. Kept spouting off his fat mouth in 99 when the redsox trailed the Indians 2-0. He ate it though
when they came back and won. There might not be a more smug broadcaster doing baseball these days.

He's good with Miller. He is also a good guy if you have ever met him. If he had no opinions that were to the contrary of the average fan, then he would not be a commentator. Let him live.

The thing is, I would not want to meet him. He bothers me, even his elf like appearence makes me ill.

jadmeister - so what....your opinion is your own. The guy is HOF. What do you want? Kevin Costner?

How true this is. His kid thinks he's doing stand up comedy whenever he gets behind a microphone.

Or worse, he feels he's the shining beacon of morality. His call of Randy Moss's 'mooning' was pathetic:

"That's the most disgusting thing I've ever seen! I'm sorry you all had to see it" was just ridiculous. If his daddy wasn't an all time great, this guy would be unemployed.

I kind of like Joe Morgan. When it comes to the Stupid Announcer Sweepstakes nobody scores higher than Paul McGuire IMO, so that's the measuring rod I use to gauge total incompetence. Joe gets a little daffy sometimes, but at least he's soft spoken and I get the feeling he cares deeply about the game. He and Jon Miller have a relaxing effect on me (similar to Steve Stone IMO), and that's all I really look for in a baseball announcer. Guys like Chris Berman, Harry Carey, etc. just make me lunge for the mute button, but Joe Morgan, Skip Carey and so on do a fine (though not spectacular) job in my book.

I really enjoy listening to Ken Singleton, Bobby Murcer, and Jim Kaat on the Yankees Network. Not only do they tell some great stories...they know HOW to tell them without making you yawn. They also have some real down-to-earth insight about the game. As for Michael Kay and David Justice...someone please lose them at the airport! Paul Oneill and Al Leiter arent too bad either...a good work in progress. Same thing with Keith Hernandez on the Mets Network.

Give me the old WOR days of Tim McCarver and Ralph Kiner doing Mets games.
    That was fun.

Agree that Justice is not good. Tino is terrible on ESPN as well.

Very few ex players end up being very good.

I loved Joe Namath as a player, but he should never have been behind the mic.

    Peace

Jadmeister22 - based on your "after thought" diss, I assume you are either an outright knucklehead or an alt ID for a fool that has disagreed with me in the past. I greatly welcome to be on your so called "enemies list." I love dueling with jackasses. Bring in forth, Homer.
