Well, off they go to NGC...

After agonizing between ANACS and NGC, I ulitimately decided on NGC for a couple of reasons:
1. Big delays at ANACS post-move.
2. Until they get their problems ironed out with the new slabs, I'm not sure I want to be a guinea pig.
3. As Don correctly mentioned, at the cheapest tier, NGC is cheaper than ANACS.
I decided to send them in at the lowest tier, and will use the 5 "standard" submission coupons at a later date. This is my first TPG submission on my own; I've sent some coins into TPGs in the past through a local dealer, but that was years ago (PCI green/blue label days).
I do have some trepidations though:
1. I'm not sold on the consistency of NGC's grading of 19th-Century British copper. They're all over the map.
2. Bodybags. I like that ANACS will grade problem coins as opposed to sh*tcanning them. For example, will NGC bodybag the Salzburg 1/2 Thaler because of planchet cracks even though it's an overstruck issue?
3. My grading ability in the AU58-MS62 area is very suspect (read: lousy). What I see as wear may be softness of strike and visa versa; some of these may come back way off from my predictions.
4. I'm lousy at detecting cleaning/altered coins. Then again I see dipped coins in TPG holders all the time...
No matter how it turns out, this will be a learning experience.

Holy cow - that's some range.
Anyhow - good to see someone else posting grades before receiving the grades back from slabbing.
I hate it when people get coins back and say 'This one's MS64 which is exactly what I was thinking before I send it away'. Don't give me that carp - post the grades before you send 'em away people !
I think my ZAR's will be way out as well but I did my best in grading them. ( cringe )
Zar, you'd be surprised at how many members make honest predictions in advance over here, and they're right on, I don't know about the US forum. Don't forget that two of the winners of PCGS' 2005 World Grading Series are Darksiders in both dealer and collector categories. Even if the predictions are posted late, such as in a recent post of mine, I copied them from a PM I had sent to ajaan months ago.I would never question the integrity of any oldtimer here at the Darkside, but many are simply not interested at all in grades which is why many members, incl. myself avoid to post them or give them a minimum importance with few exceptions.

Yeah, the toning combined with the relative crudeness of the issue has me guessing. I'm leaning towards AU50-55, but I could easily see it coming down on either side of that by a good margin.

I'll concur with Dimitri on this. I don't know how things normally are on the U.S. board (I stay away; they're not nice people over there
Biggest difference between them and me is that they actually know how to grade.

You've got to be kidding. If I had a dollar for every time I was off a grade, I could retire.
