SGC to PSA crossovers

Has anyone ever had an SGC crossover either cracked or not come back "trimmed"? Trying to figure out my odds of an SGC 84 card coming back PSA 7.

Do I submit for crossover? Almost sounds like that is the better alternative then cracking when SGC is involved. Anyone else have an opinion?

Crack it and submit it. I don't submit in the holder. Can you post a scan? I would like to see the card you are trying to cross.

I would submit in the SGC holder first. If it fails to cross I would than crack it out and re-submit. I have had excellent success crossing SGC in the holders pre-1980.

If it's a card worth some $$, I'd keep it in the holder. I wouldn't want to be left holding an ungraded card. My opinion.

I agree with Albie. I would submit it in the SGC holder with a minimum grade requirement. If it does not cross, then crack it and submit. I have also had excellent results with SGC to PSA crossovers.

I had a few not cross- including 2 that I thought were probably short and PSA concurred. Both of those I submitted in the holder, and didn't resubmit because I agreed.
I"ve cracked about 30-40 SGC's and submitted to PSA. Virtually all went either straight across or went up 1 grade (about 50-50) a few went down a grade. A few years ago SGC was very tough on centering and you could get some significant upgrades on those by submitting raw to PSA.

Edited to say- these were all SGC with the 1-10 grade on them. If they are the earlier SG holders all bets are off- I've had more than a few that wouldn't even come close to crossing.

I’ve had fair success in crossing from SGC to PSA in the holder or out. But I have had a few of SGC’s being deemed trimmed by PSA in and out of the holder. A few years ago I had good success getting bumps on SGC 92’s to PSA 9’s and in one case a PSA 10. Don’t do the cross / bump game anymore, since too many players entered that arena.

Once I bought a BLAZER 1967 Topps Pete Rose on ebay in a SGC 92 holder. Thought it was a dead lock PSA 9. Popped it out of the SGC holder and shot it in to PSA and it came back trimmed. Tried again, still trimmed. Send it back to SGC and they called it trimmed. Now I’m out over $500.00 for the card, along with the multiple grading and shipping fees.

    OUCH!

    Treetop-
Did the Rose also have the 1-10 grade on it as well?

yes it did, but I totally agree with you statement on the earlier SGC holders, to the point that I never even considered one unless it was in hand.

If the card is 84 - 7 is that OK?

    Here are mine -

    1961 Topps Jack Kemp - SGC 92(8.5) - PSA 8
    1967 Philly - 3 sgc 92's - 1 of each PSA 8,9,10
    1968 Topps FB - SGC 92 - PSA 8
    1972 FB - 2 Sgc 92's - 1 each PSA 8,9
    1974 FB - SGC 92 Ted Hendricks - PSA 8

    1973-74 BKB 2 SGC 96(9 mint) - 2 PSA 8's
    1974-75 BKB 3 SGC 96's - 2 PSA 9's and one PSA 8.

The 9 and 10 Philly were 4 subs ago and the rest are from the last 4. I have been getting killed lately and these 9's going to 8's I think kinda supports that. I usually am pretty good at spotting 9's and my non crossovers have gotten as chitty of results as these.

I cross the other way. Recent results:

    Vikings-

1976 Andy Maurer PSA 8 cross to SGC 96 (wow)
1976 Jim Lash PSA 8 cross to SGC 92 (sweet)
1971 Mick Tinglehoff PSA 8 did not cross to minimum SGC 88 grade I wanted (bummer)
    1976 Alan Page PSA 8 cross to SGC 86 (not surprised --- low-end 8)
1975 Fran Tarkenton PSA 9 cross to SGC 96 (correct)
1974 Jim Marshall PSA 9 cross to SGC 92 (disappointed, but not surprised)
1976 Ron Yary PSA 9 cross to SGC 96 (yep)

Some crossed higher, some lower. I keep them all in the holder with a minimum grade to protect myself. I think if you trust the company that you send your cards to then they're not going to screw you because it came from another holder. In fact, I think for them to see the competitions grade is an advantage when the competition isn't Pro, etc...

I've got a large batch of 73 Vikings mostly in PSA 9 that is doing the SGC cross-over and we'll see how that goes. I put SGC 92 minimum on all of them.

    Enjoy your collection!
