Attention E-bay sellers.

Anyone ever consider dumping money orders as an accepted method of payment and only doing paypal? I just figured out the other day that you could set your auctions to ONLY accept bids from buyers who have paypal accounts.

Going to the bank is such a hassle.

Any thoughts?

WOW do I agree!!!!!! image There are some outstanding buyers out there that will not pay with a credit card or Paypal! Plus, no fees to take a money order! i am actually considering droping Paypay due to the very high cost of this service.

I too agree. I "don't accept personal checks" either, but I have had some buyers ask for consideration. I have no problem doing that if A) they ask, b) have impeccable feedback, and c) understnd that I may wait 10 days to mail the card.

I figure if the buyer goes through the hassle(and expense) of going to the Bank for a Money Order.........going to the Bank to cash it shouldn't be a big deal !!!

personally... i let Money Orders accumulate (you have a year to cash them)........so i cash them, when it's convenient image

I dont want cash, but get some bills and am happy with that method also !!!!

I always wanted to do this with my auctions, but was afraid Ebay would shut them down. Now I know. image
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Going to the bank a hassle?!? Where I live they have these machines to which you can drive or walk up, insert a thin plastic card, press a series of buttons and - voila! - perform bank-related transactions including but not limited to withdrawals, deposits and transfers.

Seriously, though, I'm with a lot of the others here in that I'm on the verge of dropping PayPal. While I haven't been subjected to any of the nightmarish situations that we've all read about from decent sellers, I'm not sure that the fees are worth it. I could probably live with those fees if PayPal were still independent of eBay, but they've been much harder to swallow since the online auction giant acquired PayPal.

I only pay by Money Order since I don't have a PayPal account. I came across one of those auctions last month.
I went to bid and then was rejected by eBay since I didn't have a PayPal account. There was a couple of bids
on the auction already and no one else bid. I left a message to the person saying I wanted to bid higher on his
auction and he would have gotten more money from his auction but I guess he didn't care about getting more
    money......
  • I'm convinced! Money orders continue to be accepted. Besides, there's a couple of babes at the bank.

    Shhh. Don't tell the Wiff!

I simply would rather pay with and receive a M.O. for fee-bay transactions. I wanted to bid on a 58 clemente here recently, but the seller had set his site to only accept bidders with a pay-pal account. He lost out on my bid. Granted, I may loose some bidders by not offering pay-pal, but I figure if they want the item, they can send a M.O. or a check. If the buyers feedback is high enough I may even ship the card before waiting for the check to clear.

As a seller I will accept all forms of payment.

As a buyer i prefer paypal.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • As a buyer I do not ignore sellers who take only MO and check. I would rather pay by Paypal, but hey it's their sale.

As a seller I will take a MO, but my listings say no checks. I still receive checks with no warning. Hey, sometimes people just don't understand. I don't fuss about it.

Personally I may prefer taking MOs since you don't pay the Paypal fee, but this also may limit sales. It depends on what you're selling.

As a seller, do you really want to tell customers how to pay? I think any form of payment is fine - and so do most major businesses. If you start getting into restricting forms of payment, you alienate potential valuable customers.
