"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Am I missing something or is this steroid finger pointing?

<< <i>Steroid finger pointing. Look how freakin' small Thome was then compared to the big galooth he is now. >>
Ha, you should see me.
Seriously, the picture in the card he's what?? 19 or 20. People get bigger and fill out. I agree with Writer11, Thome comes off as a guy who's had too many beers and burgers. I was 170 when I was in college and although I still appear in good shape, I've managed to get to 205.
If Thome eats alot or heaven forbid lifts some weights, he's going to be bigger 15 years later. Bodies are more filled out at 35 than 20. Lord knows mine is.

<< <i>As someone who's spent many, many years going to the gym, I can say for a fact that there's only so much you can do without resorting to chemical enhancement. Perhaps you only know this if you've spent time in this type of atmosphere. >>
That is BS. Different peoples bodies fill out and react differently both to years and working out. Just cause a guy adds bulk over the course of 15 years does not make him a juicer.
When I was 19 I was 155lbs. I am 29 now and nearly 50 lbs heavier. My pictures would look very similar as Thome's. Pizza, beer and working out will do that to some guys. Other guys, can metabolize the pizza and beer and not add bulk. This is the type of physiological difference in 2 people I am referring to.

This guy must be a juicer too. Look how much bigger he got!

You have no clue what you're talking about. I'm not talking about getting fat. I'm talking about packing on dozens of pounds of muscle. Like I said, if you've never lifted a weight in your life, you probably have no clue.

Looking for Al Hrabosky and any OPC Dave Campbells (the ESPN guy)
In High School, I played a lot of baseball and came in at 5'8" (never got taller), 165 lbs.
In College, I didn't play ball, but worked out a lot. After about 1 year of consistant weights, got to 195 lbs. No juice, no supplements, just good old fashon hard work.
Of course, I stopped working out after college and watched all that weight turn to fat (225 lbs at 27). Changed my diet, stuck to light working out, got back down to a lean 165 by 30 (took 6 months to loose 60 lbs).
More impressive is one of my cop buddies. Dude was 150 about 10 years ago. Now he's 210. Works out every friggin day with weights and martial arts.
Then again, one of my old college buddies weighed in at 140 and couldn't add weight if he tried. He's still 140 at 30.
Everyone's built differently, and everyone benifits differently from the same workouts. Some people have bodies that can put on or take off lots of weight in a hurry. Others need to work long and hard. Some guys never see any results.
Plus, take into account that we're talking about Pro Athletes too. They aren't "average guys", they're guys with the will and the body types to perform among the elite.
