1977 Touchdown Club cards

Does anyone know why PSA is so reluctant to grade this issue? At first PSA wouldn't grade the set as a card (able to be added to the HOF autographed card set) - they would authenticate the signature but label the flip as "Trade Card" which was categorized as an autographed item similiar to an index card. I contacted Joe and he agreed to grade the set but now I find out that the cards are labeled with the year and manufacturer but PSA won't assign a grade.

This set was issued so that collectors could obtain signtures of Hall of Famers and stars of the early NFL era. I'm trying to build the NFL HOF autographed set and there are several players that are near impossible to find on anything other than the Touchdown set (Benny Friedman and Link Lyman come to mind). IF PSA doesn't assign a grade, then the cards will still count towards the completion % but not towards the GPA.

I'd appreciate any meaningful insight.

I am not sure why they wont grade them. There are some listed in the POP report. So if they grade unsigned cards why not the signed ones?

  • Greg,

I just checked the submission. Looks like you finally got those TD Club cards graded! Awesome! And the cards were mailed out on 4/13. Were you just going to hold onto these until we got the cards back from the $5 modern special?

    Thanks

    Jason,

Joe O kept his word and the cards were graded...thank god. I'll be in London next week, so I can't mail the cards to you until next Saturday at the earliest. Otherwise, I can wait until the $5 special is graded and mail them out...if the darn things are ever graded!!! By the way, the Henry Jordan auto was rejected by PSA/DNA. I talked to the seller (who is a long time dealer) and he insists it's authentic...and offered me a refund. I think I'm going to get a second opinion before I ask for a refund.

Greg, here's a big scan of a legit Henry Jordan, from one of my team signed yearbooks. I'm sure it's good. If you can get a good scan of yours, maybe compare them?
