What to do with scrap dental material?

I have a very good friend that is a dentist. He does accumulate a fair share of precious metals due to the inlays, onlays or crowns he has to remove for various reasons. Right now, he just gets rid of them by having a guy come over and buy it for pennies on the dollar. This guy is only looking out for himself. I know the scrap can sell for much more.

I want to give my friend much more money than he is now. All I need to know is where can I take the scrap in order to have it melted and purified? I want to have some Viking/Germanic/Norse jewelry made such as rings, pendants and other stuff.

Tell me if my idea is not practical or economically viable.

I deal with a nearby jewelry shop where they specialize in repair and special designs. Every time a project has involved scrap material - like the time I gave him a somewhat battered ring and had him set the stones in a new one he made - he has purchased the scrap from me at a relatively small discount from melt.

Check with that type of jeweler in your own town.

    Good luck.
