PCGS and World coin numbers

ajaanajaan Posts: 17,454 ✭✭✭✭✭
I sent an email to PCGS asking them for the coin number of a British coin. They did reply but their reply was somewhat troubling.

Hello Sir,

We do not have the coin numbers for World Coins.

Subject: PCGS coin number

Hi,

Could you please provide the PCGS coin number for a Great Britain 1958 1/2p Proof.

Regards,
Don Rupp

How could they not be able to find the coin number?

I don't follow, have you ever put any world coin numbers in any PCGS invoice? Canadians excluded. I don't think they have any, all the better for us submitters, less work to do, more room for graders to screw up, ask Mac about his specimens ending up in MS holders. Good thing I'm around and buy them anyway. image

All the coins have numbers as seen on the slabs. I don't put the numbers on the submission form. I wanted the number to look up the population report. You can only get the World Coin populations if you input the number, if you don't know the number, you can't get the population.

Strange response. I'd call customer service (maybe the online chat?) and express my disappointment with the answer.

    Don, I found the following:

202110 is the coin no. for the 1950 1/2d. PRRD. PCGS has graded only one in 64RD.

Logically, if you skip out to 1958, it should be 202134 for PRRD. This number yields a blank page which means they have never graded that date/type. This presumes that they are mixing regular issue proofs and special PORs sequentially, something they do not do in the Victorian series......so, ????

As Rat said, try the phone.
