March Grades Popped GAI .5 Grade Crossovers - Mojo

As I've posted on here a few times, I'm trying to complete the 1951 Topps Red Back set in PSA 9 or higher. Not sure if any of you follow these cards, but in the last few months, commons have been selling for upwards of $150 (SMR $110). So with the special, I thought I would try my hand with some crossovers. I looked at about 20 GAI 8.5s and found 3 I thought were undergraded. Here are the results:
31558906 1951 TOPPS RED BACK 3 FERRIS FAIN N/A 9
31558907 1951 TOPPS RED BACK 8 EARLY WYNN N/A 9
31558908 1951 TOPPS RED BACK 29 BOB KENNEDY N/A 9
Needless to say, I'm super pumped. Total cost on those 3 cards would have been in the $500 ballpark dlvd as PSA 9s off eBay. Cracking and resubmitting cost me a total of $230. A major savings there.
I did find 1 card out of about 100 raw I looked at that I felt was a 9. Talk about being completely wrong:
31558909 1951 TOPPS RED BACK 34 GRADY HATTON N/A 5
So in this one, I sunk about $30 into what is now a $5 card. I must have missed a surface wrinkle because I really thought the card was amazing.
That being said, I can't wait to get these cards in and get them added to my collection. Also, thanks for the advice on cracking and resubmitting half grades. It obviously helped. I was honestly hoping to get one PSA 9 and two PSA 8s. Getting all three 9s, makes my week.

Recently I finished crossing all of my ASA cards over. Most were my cards I submitted to ASA but some I bought from Hager. 90% of the cards I bought from Hager over the years that were pre-graded were non-gradeable. The cards I submitted to him were fairly close to the PSA grades with the exception of some cards that came back lower because of undetected surface wrinkles.
He charged me double book and I had to pay half down and the rest when he located the card. I agreed and several weeks later I was notified that the card was available. I paid the balance and received a perfectly centered card that would probably grade a 5 and certainly no higher than a 6.
I learned a very expensive lesson, don't believe what someone tells you, unless you have checked them out. As I showed my prize to several local dealers the card was universally laughed at. I then discovered Mr Hagers reputation. Live and learn. Now when I see a no returns on graded cards auction, I don't bid unless there is a VERY nice scan.
By the way, I in no way claim that I was ripped off. Just stupid enough to beleive what I wanted to hear.

And I agree about the buying from "big dealers". The 5 above was from a big dealer that told me it was mint. A lot of that I put on me though. The scans were very detailed and then I did examine the card in person after I bought it but before I sent it in. I'm looking forward to getting it back and getting it under the ole halogen lamp.
