Because sometimes people "STEAL" certification numbers. Then when you sell a coin you have an upset customer e-mail you saying they can't register the coin and it is just a hassel to get it released. Actually it isn't that bad (if you have a picture and it takes 2 or 3 days) but it is easier to block out the number and then you don't have to worry about it.

It's a pretty common practice for higher end coins being sold online. I'm surprised that some of the bigger auction houses don't do it.
