street value on a 1957 Topps Basketball PSA graded set

Some dealer has a set that grades out at 4.5, or something for 7k. Sounds too high for such low grades. Is this set impossible to find graded??? Seems more common than the 1948 Bowman.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

  • SMR on a PSA 5 set is $3,950 if that's any help.

I think it would completely depend on what the major cards are graded. If the walton, pettit, and a couple others are all in the 6 range It's likely a decent price. If they're the ones in the 4 range....it's just business as usual at a card shop.

This set is a real shame....

The key card the Russell will sell for SMR in the EXMT and lower grades otherwise good luck getting anywhere close to SMR for grades 6 and lower. I am 89% complete on the set and 75% complete in PSA 7.

The set is tough to get in PSA 6 form centered. In PSA 7 grade the cards are out there but finding centered cards is fairly difficult and there are some low pop cards that regularly outsell SMR. In PSA 8 it is very very difficult to put together.

7K for a PSA set that has a 4.5 average would seem to me to be way out of the ballpark. I have been selling off my 5's and 6's on ebay and most of the time they get $9.99 a cards for commons and semi-stars. The really well centered cards still do not reach SMR in these grades.

Allen - Too bad about the pen marks. The cards look pretty good otherwise.

    Aro,
Congratulations on your progress with the '57s. When I'm a little closer to completing my '69 through '75s, I'm gonna take a shot at the '48, '57 an '61 in mid grade (5's to '7s centered). I'll probably be looking for advice when that time comes.
I'm at 77.2% on the other sets, and I figure it'll start really getting slow as I get over 85%.

Dhjacks - Thanks. Congrats on your progress. That is a lot of sets you are working on. Do you buy mostly graded or submit raw? Also, I might have some cards you need, I will send you a PM at some point with what I have.
  • Have a Cousy 8 with the typical centering think I paid about 1K for it about five years ago. I don't think it has appreciated at all.

I'm missing two raw cards (or decently centered PSA/GAI/SGC 4-7) for my 57 basketball set. If anyone has these and wants to trade or sell, let me know:
    2 George Yardley
    37 Cliff Hagan
