This cool set gets very little attention and after buying it at a Mr. Mint auction about 12 years ago, I decided to send it in with my recent submission. What do you know it comes back 12 psa 10s, 10 psa 9s. 4 psa 8s and a psa 5. Not bad! But how am I ever going to find that one upgrade? Aha--on the registry is my pal Mike Tavenner (couldabeena)-who was willing to make the trade of his psa 9 for my psa 5 if I included my 1976 Crane Discs set(which he gave me) in my calculations. Mike--this is for card sets only--but here's to the funniest guy on the board--you will be first in line for steaks and drinks at my party and yes I will make another call to see if Hootie can change his schedule.....and finally I will make sure the beautiful 1976 Crane Discs set is displayed prominently.
Among the oddities cards are dedicated to are--
1)Bronco Nagurski knocking out 3 opponents on consecutive plays
2)Johnny Miller making a 60-yard kick between his opponents legs
3)Fred Snite Sr. making back-to-back hole-in-ones
4)George Quam becoming handball champion with 1 arm
5)Bunny Levitt making 499 consecutive free throws.
This set stands 4th on the registry with a 9.33 set rating(behind J Jet J(10.0)!, my friend John Woodring who has an incredible 1954 Bowman Football set and MOSH(whats he doing here?).
This represents the 13th set in PSA 8 or better I have completed since year-end 2005--certainly unexpected but very gratifying.
My goal has been over 100 vintage or semi-vintage sets in psa 8 and better with an interim goal of 50 by year-end 2006.

They are all on display in "the room". Many collectors/dealers/graders have seen them and if you are in the New Jersey area you are welcome to come see the collection.
They are certaiinly not "stored away".
And I will keep the sets and pass them on to my son or if he does not want them my daughter.
