This guy was buying 89 Fleer rack cases day after day so I emailed him to ask about what 89 Fleer Bill Ripken versions he found. I gave some info on what he could find ect.. The cases he was buying was around $50 and out of nowhere he offered to sell me a case. I can easily buy one on ebay at $50 or so but I guess after I informed him of all the variations he could find he saw $$ in his eyes. Anyways he offered to sell me a $50 rack case for $165 !!!! Needless to say I laughed and passed. Some people.

Just do a search on this forum. He has written about it here before, and I think he has a link to a site that details many variations of the scribble, the cut, etc.

Most people ask about what is rare.
Here my opinion based on versions in hand only-not counting Double Dies and other questionables.

<< <i>Who does one go to to confirm the legit nature of such versions ? Does Biily do that ? >>
Yeah I call up Billy and ask him. I have wondered though if he followed his cards and knows the version count. Someone emailed Fleer and said they got a list of versions but would not divulge info or fwd email it to me.
I have confirmed thru many sources. A version is not legit if only backed by one source. I use articles, opinions of other veteran E/V collectors and versions found showing on unopened material. Not cello as easily tampered.
