Does anyone know much about the 2000 Fleer "Greats of the game" sets?

Hi Guys, Does Anyone know much about the 2000 Fleer "Greats of the game" sets? I like the look of both the baseball and football sets. I did some digging and found that the sets aren't that costly but the unopened boxes are pretty high. Why are the unopened boxes of these cards so much? Is this another case of the inserts driving the cost of the boxes? Does anyone have any sets or bought any boxes to open? Are these cards gradable? Any info would be helpful. Neil

The autographed cards are VERY prone to chipping - it's very hard to find one that would grade above and 8. The set does have a very nice selection of players, inluding some tough to find HOFers. I prefer the UD Legends sets (99 Century Legends, 2000 and 2001 UD Legends) because it has similiar player selection and the cards aren't as condition sensitive.

  • It's the auto's. They're seeded 1:8 Hobby and 1:20 retail in the Baseball. There are some big names in the 93 card Auto set as well. Lots of HOF'ers and stars signed for the set. Names like Ryan, Mays, Banks, Rizzuto, R. Jackson, E. Murray, S. Musial, McCovey, Mattingly, Winfield, Yount, Spahn, Schmidt, Seaver, Stargell, Berra, Boggs, and on (Stargell and Mays are Exchange cards though). It's really an impressive lineup. image

Neil, I bought a couple of boxes when they came out. That set has great eye appeal, but as said above, those borders do chip. I was able to complete the basic set with two boxes. There is also a subset called Retrospection, wasnt able to finish that set. I will have to pull them out, last I remember my set was in NM/MT cond. Let me know if you do the set, I have a few of the autos, cant remember all but I know one is Al Kaline. I also have the Thurman Munson Yankee Clippings. I'm not married to these cards so if you decide to put that set together your welcome to what I have.

    Neil,

I do believe I have darn near complete sets for both baseball and football. I used to own a shop and the guys would crack boxes for the autographs and leave me everything else. I think I have made probably 20 base sets of each and sold them on ebay. Like I said I am not sure if I have full base sets but I know I am close. Let me know and I will dig them out (I just saw them so I know they are close at hand) and as long as you pay for shipping they are yours!!

I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!

Hi mccardguy1, Thanks for such a kind offer. I would love to get both the 2000 Fleer grats of the game baseball and football sets in. I'd be more than happy to pay for the shipping. Email me at nbdowney@msn.com and I'll give you my mailing address. Also, tell me if you can except Paypal. I'll be sure to add a few bucks to cover the Paypal fee. Thanks, Neil
