Tito used Jonathan Papelbon instead of Foulke to save Josh Beckett's 2-1 victory -- a no-brainier decision to me, but you never know with some of these managers (bad memories of Grady Little cropping up, I guess).
This was crucial in two ways -- one, they won the game, but two, it saved Josh Beckett's sanity. Can you imagine how demoralized Beckett would have been if Francona put Foulke in to blow it? This gets things off to a good start for both pitchers!
BTW, Timilin looked shaky, but I think its just rustiness rather than a physical/mental problem as is the case with Foulke.

I don't think Tito has permanently gone to Papelbon over Foulke just yet. The Sox would rather see Papelbon as a starter (what a great 1-2 pair of youngsters at the top of the rotation for the next 5 years, Beckett and Papelbon) but Foulke is still not 100% back from last years dual surgeries and resulting lack of confidence. I'd bet if the score is 4-1 Boston, you'll see Foulke - but for the time being, a 2-1 Boston lead is going to Papelbon.
Is it just me, or are good relief pitchers scarce?
<< <i>Funny thing, I have been touting Papelbon on these boards for the last year, and I forgot to take him in all 3 fantasy leagues I am in. I remembered to take Foulke in one league, though...

CT, I have been bashing the next "Clemens" all winter long and DID NOT forget to draft him on my fantasy team

Agreed . . . . that seems to be the plan. Put Foulke in with 3 or 4 run leads to see what he's got left, and take it from there. I would like to see Papelbon start after Foulke gets up to speed or they bring someone else in to close (like Hansen).
Foulke is showing some life as well -- 2 Ks in a scoreless 8th. I can see him a new reality series, from the producers of "Bonds on Bonds": "The Six Million Dollar Setup Man"!!
Fatso better get his ass in gear!!
