Perfins?

Can anyone direct me to a web site or give me some info on perfins? Do they add or detract from a stamp? I've been searching the web and understand that some were used by companies but I've inherited a bunch perfed IOWA in an arc. Any comments? Thanks

There used to be a club at www.perfins.com, but it seems that website has been down for close to a year. Yahoo has a group dedicated to perfins. Here's the link to join them if you haven't already: yahoo perfin group

I have to admit I don't know much about them or how to identify the company/org. As to if they add or distract; there is no right answer. Some collectors value these; just as others do with precancels, straight edges, sons, cds, etc... Others will turn their nose to them; so to speak.
