michael jordan's 63 points in 2 overtimes was more impressive than kobe's 81

my bad, What was I thinking about....bringing up kobe in a baseball forum

Seems like a manufactured rarity to me. I'm not sure how autograph collectors value special inscriptions though.
  • No. It's just a signed ball with an inscription. Similiar to Hank Aaron signing a baseball with 715 and the date he broke Babe's record. It may hold greater value in the eyes of some autograph collectors but the HOF, not a chance IMO. The noly ball that I would consider putting in the HOF would be "the" actual ball from the 81st point. I say consider because, truthfully, it should be the ball that breaks the record. That's not to say it wasn't an incredible feat because it was. Just my $0.02! image

  • yea I agree that it should be the actual game ball, but kobe never signs like this and I doubt or hope he didn't sign the game ball or his game anything from that game like this.

about hank....I think uda had hank sign his inscriptions, but kobe does not have this deal yet, so as far as of today, this is the only ball of it's kind....of course until UDA has kobe start doing this, but oh well

Also I do agree about wilt's record, but come on =), in this day of age, it is the single greatest scoring performance we have witnessed.

I guess it's just a nice piece with a nice inscription. I just wondered what kind of items are in the hall of fame? Just game worn or rare items of certain players?

Some items the hall of fame look for are from private collectors, just wondering on what items those could be ?

  • sagardsagard Posts: 1,900 ✭✭✭
This ball apparently has significance to a Kobe auto collector. The Hall would probably only be mildly interested in the game ball or his jersey. The other problem is that anyone could take a legit Kobe auto and fake the inscription.
  • stevekstevek Posts: 29,359 ✭✭✭✭✭
This item in the HOF? Now lemme think for a zillionth of a second...NO!
  • haha on the comment, that the hall of fame would be mildly interested in kobe's items after his 81 point game. MILDLY? are you kidding me? The hall of fame pretty much begged him for his pair of shoes that he wore in the 81 point game, they also have his jersey from his 3 point record game, so anything he wore in the 81 point game would be in the hall of fame.

  • stevekstevek Posts: 29,359 ✭✭✭✭✭
<<< stevok, what exactly do you know of the basketball hall of fame? >>>

I've been to the Baseball Hall of Fame several times but never to the Basketball Hall of Fame. If the Basketball Hall of Fame needs an item such as that, then it is one hurtin' Hall of Fame.

First thing I notice is that the regular and the red/white/blue kobe "autos" aren't close to the same. I don't think anybody who signs as much as he does changes his sig that much.

I think Stevek has some credibility with his 2 years and 3500+ posts. Why attack him just because he has a different opinion. Attacking and arguing with people here isn't going to change their minds.

The last post you had about Kobe, all you did was argue with everybody else. Now you're here asking if a Kobe signed plain ball that had nothing at all to do with the game should be in the HOF and arguing with people who say it shouldn't.

Kobe isn't in the hall of fame. He might be one day, he's not now. Maybe his shoes and his jersey are or will be, but not a ball that wasn't involved at all. The 81 point game wasn't a record. 101 was a record, Wilt Chamberlain set that record.

  • """""""""""""""First thing I notice is that the regular and the red/white/blue kobe "autos" aren't close to the same. I don't think anybody who signs as much as he does changes his sig that much.""""""""

ok first things first...kobe signed the all star ball in 2000, that's 6 years ago and kobe never signs with his FULL NAME anymore just with kobe 8, so what's your point about diffrent autographs? I could post you 100's of kobe autographs that look diffrent are are authenticated by UDA

"""I think Stevek has some credibility with his 2 years and 3500+ posts. Why attack him just because he has a different opinion. Attacking and arguing with people here isn't going to change their minds. """""

Yes he does have credibility, but in BASEBALL. Like he said, he has never been to the basketball hall of fame so what's your point?

"""""""""The last post you had about Kobe, all you did was argue with everybody else. Now you're here asking if a Kobe signed plain ball that had nothing at all to do with the game should be in the HOF and arguing with people who say it shouldn't. """"""""""""

yes I did argue because all anybody ever did was reply with kobe is a rapist or kobe raped a poor white girl, so what did it have to do with my questions or my post? NOTHING So what's your point that I argued about it? This is why I pointed out first thing in this post, that I did not want to have kobe's rape charges or anything other than what I mentioned talked about.

................Kobe isn't in the hall of fame. He might be one day, he's not now. Maybe his shoes and his jersey are or will be, but not a ball that wasn't involved at all. The 81 point game wasn't a record. 101 was a record, Wilt Chamberlain set that record...............

First of all, WILT SCORED 100 not 101, but anyways the 81 point game wasn;t a record....your correct, but it's the greatest scoring performance in an era that a whole basketball team doesn't even score 100 anymore.

    Ok?

Also I think David Robinson's 71 points on the last game of the season to beat Shaq out of the scoring title was more impressive and meaningful. Thats just me.
  • sagardsagard Posts: 1,900 ✭✭✭
You totally missed my point. Say you sell your legit Kobe auto with inscription. Due to it's rarity it sells for a huge premium. Forgers see that and take good balls and add a phony inscription. I'm sure your ball is genuine given the passion you obviously have for it.

Like it or not Kobe is viewed by many in the same light as Bonds. Unparalled in the game, but unloved by most outside the local fan base.

If the basketball HOF is like the Baseball Hall of Fame all you have to do is send them an email with the description of your item and include your photos. They would tell you very quickly whether or not they have any interest in displaying your item. The Baseball Hall of Fame accepted an autographed Grand Slam Paul Molitor home run ball my friend caught. They game him free passes to his induction and sat him up front and basically treated him like a VIP for the day.

Well you brought up the Kobe/Kate Faber thing.

As for my Basketball Hall of Fame comments - the intention was to compliment the Basketball Hall of Fame that I don't think for one second they would or should have any interest whatsoever with an item that would probably sell for $200 on ebay.
  • taking my ball and going home? wow that was very funny

yes, kobe is compared to bonds haha, people throw needles on to the court at kobe nowadays....you know kobe is not as hated you think man. Maybe 2 years ago, but kobe is def more likeable than barry bonds, the man who enevr signs autographs for his fans

of course allen laughed, because this ugly kid feels he needs to laugh at people's joke so he feels like somebody is on his side.

No I just quit with the post, because for one, I knew it would bring drama and wanted to prove it to one of my friend's. You know something you don't have any of "ALLEN"

Anyway, It was for ish and giggles
  • thekobeshow,

Take a deep breath and relax. You asked for opinions and many have given them. Just because the opinions don't agree with what you were looking/hoping for doesn't validate the ranting. The various HOF's look for more personal items to display. So, you are correct in saying game used items or actual game items. Unrelated items hold no interest to the various HOF's, basketball, baseball, football, boxing, hockey or otherwise. In other words, Kobe's signature on a basketball is not important to the history of the game of Basketball which is what the Hall strives to preserve. The ball that was used to score 81 pts in a single game or the uniform he wore might be. I hope I explained myself a little better. image

My main issue with Kobe is his shooting percentage. It always seems like he shoots 8-23 from the court, and makes most of his free throws. Hitting 30-35 percent on the floor and his lack of assists are major knocks against him.

Lebron James is the real deal. A complete well-rounded player who has no hesitation giving the ball to his teamates to shoot.
  • oh lord, do you see my point fsjeter? Nothing against you and your opinion ...I respect it, but it's the point of bringing up a kobe related topic and everybody going haywire. I understand that the hall of fame need worn items, but there are items that the hall of fame want that un-related to being worn, such as rare high school yearbooks, grade school yearbooks that are autographed and some other stuff.

This is exactly my point, people like this guy above who rant about kobe and who is better and why he thinks he's better.

no matter what , you bring up kobe, you get haters

that's pure greatness at it's finest

    Just like Bonds.
  • yes maybe like your comparison like barry bonds, but kobe is hated for other reasons and nothing to do with the game he plays.

Bonds is hated for not signing autographs for fans, being an a-hole to the media, and using steroids to enhance his career.

Kobe is not hated for any of these reasons other than playing with shaq or his rape charges or his arrogance....name 1 superstar player that isn't some what arrogant, you have to have confidence in a game to be a superstar, so who cares if they show it....it's entertainment, I don't want a bunch of robots out there with frowns on there faces.

Rape? that was the best thing that's ever happened to her! She went from working the desk at a hotel to riding around in a H3 and a fleet of Benzes, living in a mansion and being set for life. Why can't someone rape me like that?!

List of athletes who are not jerks

Rape is never a funny thing, even if you think Kobe did not force her in anyway what so ever he still commited adultery on his lovely young wife. This was less than six month after the birth of their first child.
  • oh allen, poor mr. allen has never made a mistake in his life.

Don't get me started on allen iverson homie.

Wow adultery? Who doesn't commit that sin everyday? Who doesn't lust other women? Only elton johns homie

Be serious and real for a change. Do you know kobe? How can you call him a jerk?

Michael Jordan commited adultery aswell, only the girl didn't cry rape.........so what's your point? Michael is a jerk aswell? Michael is this mike is that?

everybody makes mistakes and everybody who is a registered at a CARD WEBSITE HAS LOOKED AT A PORNO SITE. Only it takes a honest man to admit it. What's the bible say about lust? You lust a women on t.v homie, you lust women on the internet! YOU LUST WOMEN WALKING DOWN THE STREET.

The only diffrence is you aren't a superstar athlete.

Why do you insist on using 'homie'? Are you trying to be 'street', or are you just a dope? And now you think it's ok to commit adultery? How would you feel if your wife (I doubt you have one) committed adultery? would you say 'hey it happens everyday, don't worry about it!'? No, I doubt it.

<< <i>Be serious and real for a change. Do you know kobe? How can you call him a jerk?
    >>

One doesn't need to know someone to know their personality. Only an apologist would call someone who (a) committed adultery with a 19 year old, and (b) bought his wife off with a 4.5million dollar ring, and (c) drove out of town a HoF center (and arguably the most dominant player of this generation and a HoF coach who's forgotten more basketball knowledge than Kobe can ever squeeze into his tiny little brain.

<< <i>Michael Jordan commited adultery aswell, only the girl didn't cry rape.........so what's your point? Michael is a jerk aswell? Michael is this mike is that?
    >>

How pathetic is you can't make a defense for Kobe on his own merits, instead you try to bring down other athletes. Pathetic on your part.

<< <i>everybody makes mistakes and everybody who is a registered at a CARD WEBSITE HAS LOOKED AT A PORNO SITE. Only it takes a honest man to admit it. What's the bible say about lust? You lust a women on t.v homie, you lust women on the internet! YOU LUST WOMEN WALKING DOWN THE STREET. >>

There you go with the homie thing again...what does this statement have to do with anything? There's a difference between some pr0n and allegedly raping some 19 year old girl.

    << <i>The only diffrence is you aren't a superstar athlete. >>

So that makes it ok in your eyes? Talk about sad. You're willing to say 'that's ok kobe...don't sweat it' because he's a superstar athlete, and you are trying to make some bucks?

Good lord. Talk about misplaced values.
  • good lord....this guy above is a perfect example of a kobe hater. He actually broke down everything I said and tried to make his own opinion look like it's the truth or real. I say homie, because it's in my vocab, sorry i'm not a well dressed yes man like yourself.

You live in a fantasy world if you think your wife or girlfriend has never lusted another man or flirted at work with another man or even thought about cheating on your sad case for a human-being.

Let's be real here...........How many men have said, they would have sex with such and such if they had a chance? How many here? Be honest...........Yes I do value a relationship as I have never cheated on somebody, but that's not to say I have never thought about it or wouldn't do it. I'm a man, I make mistakes, i'm honest about it unlike yourself. Your a yesman who thinks your opinions matter here. Guess what WAKE UP

Bringing up another athlete like michael jordan is a perfect example. This man has been married to juanita for how many years? How many kids? The point is, HE CHEATED, my point about marriage is what? What is the rate of divorces in america these days billy ? Why? It's not just me HOMIE. It's america, it's our day of age, it's our people, it's our new generations that don't value MARRIAGE. Maybe you do, but the next 2 men don't. So i'm not the problem here, your own people are.

Shaq left out on his own, who cares if kobe didn't want to play with shaq, what's shaq doing now anyways? Nobody even cares about shaq or talks about shaq anymore. Isn't ironic that people still yap about kobe bryant? Kobe is the most talked about basketball player on earth at the moment. Hated or not, the man still has more fans than haters.

everybody makes mistakes, but it's people like you who hold on to them and carry a grudge on somebody you don't even know HOMIE. That is pathetic if you ask me

  • your also a guy who has a quote of "god is a imaginary friend for grown ups?

and yet you value marriage? Why do you value marriage and yet not value the person that created it? That is pathetic HOMIE. You believe in marraige, but not god haha that is one case of "hello i'm a hypocrite" if I ever saw one

  • one more thing, WHO CARES HOW MUCH KOBE PAID FOR HIS MAKE UP RING!! Jesus, kobe is a millionaire, kobe buying a 4 million $ ring = you buying petty roses and a box of chocolates for your wife on valentines day!

My sig line is from the late comic Mitch Hedberg.

So you show me pictures of your Allen Iverson stuff after you bash him? I liked Allen Iverson since he started playing at Georgetown when he had one tattoo and a crew cut.

I do not live with my mother, but it is good to see you are having to reach that far to find anything to argue about.
  • hey I told you, I like allen iverson, but you can't bash slang when your favorite player talks with slang man. That just doesn't make sense. I'm not really bashing iverson, i'm just getting a point acrossed.

I respect game, I don't respect people who don't respect game. I don't respect people who hate people they don't even know. That's hatred for no reason. Nobody talks about joe shmoe who cheated on his wife right? Everybody wants to try and talk about athletes when they make mistakes though. This is hatred for no reason.

This is like me picking on you for no reason....hatred for no reason. Idiotic isn't it?
