eBay store update.. With link and more questions

I know there's been discussion about eBay stores in the past, and the success many of you have has got me curious about opening one.

A couple of questions I don't remember answered......

How do you price your items? going ebay rate? half Beckett? 10% Beckett? depends? I want to start with a price where my stuff doesn't sit there all month yet everything isn't "given" away in 24 hours.

Also, do you take the time to have a scan of EVERY card you're selling? Just the higher dollar stuff?

I don't have anything high dollar, just a lot refractors/game used/gold/auto/numbered/insert/rc stuff. Any thoughts/advice appreciated.

  • If you want to sell singles, you have to post a pic. Especially with ungraded singles, my motto is "No pic, No bid".
As for pricing, you have to make that decision. I would suggest setting your prices at what you want and than include a best offer option. This way you will at least get emails from interested buyers and can decide at that point whether to sell or not.

I just ran a featured store for a month. For me it was a great way to sell $3-$5 PSA graded cards. I also used it to sell some some high dollar items that I didn't really care to much about selling. I set the prices to a level I could live with and let them go. I was very happy with the results. The primary benifit is the $0.02 listing fee. If you are asking more than a buck per card, you will probably need a scan. If you are asking less than a $1 per card I would suggest bundling them by player or team to get sales of $3 or more per listing.

Thanks guys. Here's a small sample of cards I'm referring to.
    image

I'm not wanting to solicit offers or spam, just get an idea of a fair asking price.

The Griffey insert books for $4. The Ryan jersey books for $50. The Mantle was an SP in 02 Upper Deck and books for $30.
The Marino books in the $40-$48 range, depending on the multiplier for the "gold" version, numbered to 75.

I just don't know where to start. These are cards that I don't necessarily want, but don't want to give away. I just don't know
where to start. I realize book doesn't mean much and I certainly don't expect book, but sometimes with auctions you get half
of book, sometimes only 10 percent. I just have a lot of cards in the $2-$50 range to get rid of and want to maximize the results.

For you sellers with stores (or without, doesn't matter). You have these four cards and 200 more like them. What would you list the price
    at for these four?

Thanks so much for the help, I'll start scanning.

    shameless bump
  • Shawn- From my experience with this type of material, price it at 50% and see what happens. You'll be surprised, but once the cards are gone, you'll have less anxiety and more cash in your pocket. You'll find you won't miss them at all.

    Okay, thanks for the help.

I gave it a go!!! I've got a lot of scanning and listing of "junk" to do but I'm signed up and have my store.

  • Congrats. Are you going to list and SP Authentic football singles (autos or game jerseys)?

    Fabfrank,

I don't think I have much sp authentic football, I would've kept it for my personal collection or eBay auctioned it off. I'll admit I have a lot more $2-$10 stuff I want to get rid of than anything else.

But I appreciate your help. I managed to get about 35 cards listed today, it's as big a pain as an auction.

But it only took about two hours and I got an email from ebay and another from paypal for payment.

    My first sale!!image

Now if I had the time/energy to put another 35 on each and every day.

    On the pricing...

On some stuff, 50% book is ok but other stuff...I don't know.

Do some people ask for best offers in their store?

    Just curious.

I figure 50 percent or even more on cards I could care less if I sale, less than 50 percent on stuff I definately want to get rid of.

So far I'm amazed!! Less than 24 hours into it, I managed to list 35 cards, and three have sold already!!

    Thanks again for the advice!!
  • Glad it's working out Shawn.

Since you asked, here's the link......promise not to make fun of me!!image

    ebay store

I'd really like to doing postage at home but don't know how. I've read on here it's easy, but I've never tried it. Can someone tell me how???
I know when someone pays, there is a link that says "print shipping label". Is that what you use?? Where's the best place for a scale to weigh the package?? Do you print the label through paypal and then go to the USPS website to pay??? I just don't know how it works, any help would be appreciated.

I've sold a few cards already, and combined with my Heritage trades, I had 6 or 7 bubble mailers to mail last night at the post office, and the people behind me didn't look too happy about the wait. It would save me some time to do it at home.

    thanks

Also would like to add, since pricing was my original concern, that if anyone has a few minutes to check out the link I would love your opinion on the prices. Too high? Too low?? In line??

As always, I appreciate the advice and help.

I don't know about how high one should go but I like the ones you have at 2.19 - nice round number.

Reminds of the joke about the old lady who needed money....

She decides to 'hook' for the money and does pretty good. She gets home and a friend asks..."how did ya do?" She responds..."eighty dollars and 10 cents." And her friend responds..."wow, who gave ya the 10 cents?" She responds..."all of them!" image

I have sold some items with the Best offer option. A lot of people deduct whatever you are charge on S/H when they make a best offer. I had a tennis set priced at $19 w/ $5 S/H, and I got an offer for $14, which I took. Tough to decide how to price, but I would say you should try not lose money on your cards.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
  • I have "Best offer" as an option on all items on my store. I get some ridiculous ones but most of the time people give reasonable ones and I will accept many of them as part of a larger deal if they buy enough. Ebay stores are awesome. I have had lots of traffic in the last month and many repeat buyers and this with few auctions running. If you list it, people will find it and buy it.

I used to hardly ever buy anything from ebay stores ..prices were always way high.

Lately however I have made a bunch of purchases from stores ..actually something like my last 5 or so have come from there.

There is just a ton of stuff being posted.

I dont buy modern, but mostly graded PSA from the 50's and below.

One thing i love is the make an offer, I make decent offers usually 10 to 15% off ...and my sucess ration has been 100% so far. What i do is try to find as many cards as i want from a seller and then make an offer. the savings quickly add up ...I still spend the same amount but now i end up with at least one or two "free" cards.
