Autograph Cowboys Jacket

Hello I have a Dallas Cowboys leather/suede jacket and this jacket is about 13 years old. I worn this about two or three times and has no tears, stains, rust or any defects. Made in USA size large by Jeff Hamilton and still has the new smell to it. During their 1993 superbowl year I had this jacket autographed by Troy Aikman and Jimmy Johnson. I was talking to some hardcore Dallas football autograph collector and he gave me a ubelievable offer for this jacket. I have had it for this long and wondering if it I should sell it to him or hang onto it for a few more years? I have pics below and please check them out and tell me what you think. What do you think its worth? Please ask or say anything regarding this jacket so I can learn as much as possible. Thanks

GuyFromTexas, welcome to the boards! If you are comfortable with the offer price, I would take it. It is a nice jacket but kinda not the item I would have or like auto'd. Being that it is a jacket, it probably wouldnt be suitable for framing and what collector would wear it for fear of ruining the auto's? You could use the money to buy an auto'd jersey, helmet, football or cards, items more appropriate and better to display. Like I said its nice and this is not meant to degrade your jacket.

    Good luck!
  • Hey Man....The thing is I got the jacket to wear at the time for the game. It just happends I was at the same place as Troy and Jimmy so thats where they signed it. Then after that I never wore it again and wrapped it up and put it away. Last week my mother talked to this man that seem to desperately want it. He then told her he would pay a large sum of money but didnt explain why or what he would do with it. I just wanted to get some opinions on a value and whatever else you may want to add. I do plan on getting a display case made for this jacket to increase the value also.

I thought it might have been a situation like that. If the guy wants to buy it, I would sell it as is and make as much as possible on it. Of course thats my opinion and yours is the one that counts.
    Good luck

    Welcome!

I know nothing about this kind of stuff but thought I would throw my nickle's worth in to ya...

I think the value of the jacket is with the Troy auto - more than the Johnson.

His auto - if authen. by PSA - in a pic would be worth in the 50-75$ range.

I agree that a jacket is a tougher sell than a jersey or helmet.

Now, if for any reason you can't sell the jacket and want to do something with the sigs - suggestion?....

How about carefully removing the back logo with sigs and having it framed. Then buy a new logo to have sewn on the jacket and you can wear it to games?

    Just an idea
And again, Welcome! I'm from San Antonio

I think if framed correctly, it could look very nice.

I personally framed a jacket that belonged to my favorite actress and was worn by her in one of her movies. It really looks nice framed and I cut the costs down by doing it myself. I bought a shadow box from Michael's when they had a 25% off sale, so it cost less than $100 (around $80 I think) for a huge shadowbox. When I had my autographed team signed jersey professionally done it cost over 5X as much and I never even hung it up.

Mike that is a GREAT idea! That would look sweet in a display with a psa/dna cert.

BTW, seeing you really have no interest in the jacket anymore, seeing you had it put away forever, I would sell it now.
  • Your right Mike that would be sweet..Where about can I go to get psa/dna cert for this? I like that idea and it would give this man his moneys worth. I can also put it in a dark mohogany wood case with a psa/dna cert on top. When he made his offer I was shocked, he offered me 85,000 for it. Is this is a one time deal that I should not pass up? But then again I figured it may be worth more later on. I think the man just has the money and is a real diehard Troy Aikman fan or something.

Well, I don't know who needs to be locked up in a nut house more. You for contemplating an offer like that or him for offering it.

If the guy is serious, you would be crazy not to accept. You will NEVER get an offer larger and really would be lucky to get $2000 max on ebay from a die hard fan. Probably $500-1000 is more likely.

  • GuyFromTexas,

    85,000 ???

No offense GuyFromTexas but i think the guy was pulling your leg.

Also, just curious but did you personally have the jacket auto'd by Aikman because i've recieved 2 items personally from Aikman as well as a couple auto'd cards and that sig looks nothing like the ones i have or have seen

Dave I thought the same thing about the price and Aikman auto but didnt want to say anything.
  • NBAFAN yeah I see where your coming from and I believe he is the one in the nuthouse. Thats why I am here to keep from getting there. After all this time this jacket has never been mentioned and now this offer. Puts me in a blur since I dont know about the value part of it and the amount of the offer. Like the other guy said I had it put away forever and I should now sell it..

CardCore yeah I am totally sure they are real sigs because I laid down the jacket and allowed them to sign it. Like I said the guy wants it so he will pay big for it. BTW I had it on ebay awhile back and didnt get any offers for my 2000 buy it now price and that could be a good thing.
  • Here are a couple of Aikman auto's .. The 2 most obvious differences to me are

    1. there is no break between his first name and last name in my auto's
    2. on the T in Troy the line goes straight down then curls back up and around as opposed to the other one where the line goes down then loops around

the jersey i had signed by Troy years back when the National was at Atlantic City N.J

    the card obviously from U.D

  • I dont know what to say only that I was there and the guys were relaxed. It could be when he was doing your sigs he could of been on the fly and I think that could be why you see some discrepencies in comparison.

He was far from on the fly at the show i was at. His butt was in that chair for quite a while signing

The only advice i can give you is either take the 85,000 lol or send the jacket to PSA/DNA to get authenticated because the difference in the sigs is pretty drastic. Maybe they know something at PSA that i don't know

good luck with the jacket either way though

    Dave
  • GuyfromTexas,

someone just pm'd me an old auto of Aikmans.

    Definetly looks more like yours.

I would definetly still send it in to PSA/DNA though, their the best. ( unless of course you can get 85,000 for it )
