Home Metal Detecting

Well....just broke down and bought a new detector...

It's a Tinytec! On the last outing LM and I were at, I had a heck of a time with a couple of targets that were all down in the trash and debris on the ground the Garrett's coil was too big to get at it.....LM let me use his Tinytec to locate a particularly hard target and it work flawlessly. I had to have one.....I wanted the regular one, but the dealer was out of stock, so I opted for the newer one. It has both the vibration and indicator light. Can't wait to try it out!

I'll be interested to hear what you think about it's performance Steve. I'm still using my original vibraprobe, which has been great, but I'm always interested in what others are using.

  • Steve, have you never owned a probe before? If not, you are gonna enjoy all the time you save searching for targets. I have the old model like LM's, and never go without it.
The newer model has a 8.5 inch probe I see. I get pretty rough with the older model and it's 6.5 inch probe, which is attached very well to the housing. I would hesitate to rough house the newer model since it is longer and may make it more likely to break.

  • No..I have never had one before....I have always used the tried and true method of dumping my trowel scoops onto a plastic mat and running the detector over it. Pretty easy that way to find the target, and pour the dirt right back into the hole.....I also have used a sand scoop to pour the scoops into...shake and target is there...The other day/night I was with LM, I forgot my headphones and plastic mat. The terrain was pretty uneven and running the coil over the sand scoops was tough at times...I am sure the Tinytec will be a great asset...I am real eager to use it.
