UCLA v. FLA - Winner? / Collect college alumni cards?

I happen to be a BIG UCLA fan (grown up a brain washed Bruin in LA) and will be rooting for them tonight. I have a large collection of UCLA football and basketball cards. I tried collecting UCLA baseball cards for a while but harder to track down since they don't have their college on the backs of the cards and so many guys change schools or only go for a year or two. Anybody else collect a certain college's alumni? Anybody else choosing a side tonight? Should be a good game! Go Bruin's!

Can not stand Florida ever since they played against MSU for the title. Hope UCLA pounds them.

I have two college alumni collections going for basketball, football, and baseball. I collect cards of players who attended my hometown university, and also the university I graduated from. Baseball was tough to set up, but there are websites that list player bios/info and include schools.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

I'll be rooting for UCLA tonight. Will be switching between the championship game and the Dodger game on the duece. Looking forward to seeing how the new lineup fares against the Braves.

Under the circumstances I'll likely root for florida....since UCLA went through UConn in '95, and LSU this year.

As for college collections, I have a pretty extensive UConn and LSU autographed card collection.

I collect certified autograph cards from Notre Dame players. A lot of them came out in the mid-1990's during the draft pick cards craze. They used to be $1 or $2. Now they all limited to 100 and cost at least $20 each.

i'm an SEC fan. i went to the same high school as Corey Brewer (FLA) so i'll be pulling for them. Corey is a real nice kid. He stayed with my Aunt/Uncle alot during his school days before going to college (he was/is very close to my cousin, John Ferguson, who plays at Tennessee Wesleyan). They talk a couple of times a week.

    go Gators....

    Thanks,

I do the same. Needless to say my UCLA collection is a little more extensive than my Sonoma State collection! Having said that, I prefer my Sonoma State collection since it tends to be minor league/Canadian/etc... cards. Thus when I do find one it's sort of exciting. With UCLA they have so many pros that there isn't a great challenge to it.

    Akbar-
Funny but I have met Mr. Brant. Nice guy. He's in the Sonoma State sports hall of fame! He was before my time at Sonoma but supposedly he was a good pro prospect and just fizzled after putting up huge AAA numbers. I have none of his cards. If you know of any let me know please! Thanks.

    Great topic guys.

Ever since I've joined these boards, I've been intrigued by "the PSA 10". Since my funds are limited, I have decided that, at least for now, I will satisfy my PSA 10 urge by collecting PSA 10 graded cards of former Michigan State University athletes. So far, I have the following:

2001 Bowman Chrome Mark Mulder (baseball)
    1988 Fleer Kevin Willis (basketball)
    2002 SA-GE T.J Duckett (football)
    1995 Topps Rob Fredrickson (football)
1989 Pro Set Andre Rison (football)

I've bid on many more, and have thought about including PSA 9's as well. I believe I have a complete list of any MSU athletes in baseball, football, and basketball. I scan the PSA 10 hockey cards every week or so as well, as there are probably a dozen or more MSU icers who have made their way onto a hockey card.

Here's a card I'd love to have one day in PSA 9 or 10:

    image

Herb was a world-class sprinter who attended Michigan State. He last played baseball as a junior in high school, but was signed by Charles Finley to become the first and only designated runner in MLB history. I love the position of "Pinch Runner" on his card.

Anyway, once I have the time, I'd like to scan my cards and add them to the PSA Collector's Showcase along with a bit of history for each athlete regarding his career at MSU.

Hey Matt, ever come across any of them gators or, worse yet, snakes, while mowing lawns in either Florida or Texas?

I've got a neighbor here in Michigan who once lived in Florida, and he said the snakes were pretty common. Makes me glad to live in Michigan.

Tom, Funny you ask. I saw the biggest Rattle snake I have ever seen in real life or on tv. I was cutting a lot in a far out section of town and came across that bad boy. I didnt have a tape measure and if I did I wouldnt have tried to measure him but I would say he was easily 10 to 12 feet long. He was so fat to. I followed him till he went off into the woods just because I was amazed at how big he was. I also came across a few Cotton Mouths as well. I had to kill one with my hedge trimmer because the thing came at me! Cotton Mouths are aggressive and wont think twice about coming within inches of you.

I have a decent collection of former Nebraska Cornhuskers. It's made up of mostly football, some basketball, and baseball (almost all Erstad, I'm waiting for Alex Gordon).
The beatings will continue until morale improves.

That would be about the time I would move to a land far far far away, like Michigan, preferrably in a high rise condo in the heart of some downtown.
