Yesterday in announcing the completion of the 1962-63 Topps Hockey Set in PSA 8 or better, I extolled the virtues of my fellow collectors who if they did not help me in finishing my sets, I would have a lot fewer done.
This time its time to sing the praises of the dealers who "just say no to ebay" and contact me when they have cards for sale. Dealers calling me with new inventory that I need to finish my sets has always been a key advantage on my 100-set quest. With the popularity of ebay, it has become a bit more diffficult to get dealers to do this but I try to reward the ones that do.
One that does it whenever he can is Keith Abrams who ranked 3rd in my Top Ten Dealer List last year and has been a fixture in the top 3 ever since he gave up his former job to focus on being a dealer full time.
When Keith started out in the business(on the recommendation of Steve Peckovich I believe) about 4 years ago he did a lot of stuff exclusively for me and personally delivered the cards to my house and to my office in NYC. As his busness has grown, he is unable to do this but whenever he gets a strong vintage group of PSA 8s he checks my sets first. In the past year or maybe 18 months, he sold me all of Chris Renaud's 1962 psa 8s that I neede, a good chunk of his 53 Bowman Colors and Black & Whites and now this.
1948 Bowmans are tough. Three years ago I needed 16 to complete my set in 8 or better. A week ago I needed 13. Whatever I bid, someone always outbid me. A week ago Keith contacted me and said I was done on my 1948 Bowmans in PSA 8. He said the total was X(Keith is always reasonable on price) and the 13 cards arrived today.
Alll 48 cards are PSA 8. This ranks me T4th in Current Sets behind three powerhouses--Merkel, Spence and Fogel. I have no intention of adding 9s and will let this one rest.
This represents the 11th set in PSA 8 or better I have completed since year-end 2005--the most I have ever completed in a short time.
My goal remains 50 vintage or semi-vintage sets all cards psa 8 or better by year-end 2006 and ultimately over 100 sets PSA 8 or better.
Completed sets in PSA 8 or better are as follows:

Thanks.
For post-war baseball, 1948 Leaf and 1952 Topps may be the last ones....but if I live long enough I hope to finish all post-war sets all sports through 1969--and a good number of pre-war.
Jim
That has to be a big one out of the way. Being 13 away I am sure you were thinking that one may not be this year. Very nicely done again
Dave
Thank you.
Not only not this year but maybe 3 years out. Like a gift from heaven.
Jim
I hope so--thanks for the kind words.
Jim
I look foward to seeing all of your posts concerning completed sets.
I'd love to be your insurance agent.

Buying Vintage, all sports.
Buying Woody Hayes, Les Horvath, Vic Janowicz, and Jesse Owens autographed items
Cubfan may have a point maybe every now and then you may want to list some keys you need. I know its easy to go to your sets but I recall some time back you gave a small update on some of what you are looking for. We all know about the 62 Landrum and the 66 Cards rookies but maybe there is few that some of the guys can help with. Just a thought.
Dave
On 3/26 I posted a thread entitled "The Last One or Two Cards" in which I listed the 13 vintage sets where I needed 1 or 2 cards to complete the set in psa 8 and the 3 vintage sets where I needed 1 or 2 cards to complete in psa 9.
Because of the response of set registry participants, I have now completed 3 of the sets(62 Topps Hockey and 2 others where I am awaiting delivery) and reduced two other sets to one.
The response of set registry participants and mmessage board readers has been unbelievable. I will put another thread out after awhile.
Cubsfan,
I still have 80 sets(excluding player, HOF sets etc.) I am working on but hopefully the time will come when I have completed more than I am working on.
Tom, Ron, Kobe
Thanks for congrats and kind words.
