Barber lovers.......show me your crusty looking Barber halves.

Here's mine, a better date, 1909-O Barber half, grading XF-40.........which I should be receiving fairly soon. I can't say that it has the most attractive toning in the world, but it does scream out "original", and certainly can be classified as "crusty" looking. Now....show me your crusty looking Barber halves.

Nice 09-O! The obverse is awesome!!!!!

    P.S. What’s the over/under on this thread? 7? 8?

Your 09-O looks to be a classic XF40. Just not enough forehead hari detail and tail feather detail to warrant the truly awe inspiring and most wonderful of all grades, XF45.

    Nice coin Dan.

I'm waiting to either get a decent scanner or Start TruViewing my XF45s. Does anyone have any hints on good scanners?

  • Massscrew,

Love the 1901-s ( I was eye balling that coin myself) and I also like the look of the 12-D.

    Dave,

Thanks for the compliment on the 09-O obverse.......the toning is a little weird though, maybe it'll grow on me. I give the over/under on the thread about 10 or 11.

    Craig,

I'm happy to have added an XF-40 to my Barber half collection...........with you guys around, I don't stand a chance with the 45's.

    Eyoung429,

I would grade your coin a Good-4, because of the weak rims on the reverse. The coin's nice and original looking.........tough date too.

    Wayne,

Very nice 1911 Barber........you're right, it's not crusty but it sure is pretty. You posted fantastic images.

My internet is down again at home (I'm responding now from work), so I won't be able to get back to this thread again until probably Monday. Thanks guys for the replies and have a good weekend!

Here's an ANACS XF45, that I will cross over into a PCGS holder one of these days.

This has to be my favorite look. It appears the coin was dropped in some chocolate and sprinkled with caramel coloring. I tried to take a bite out of the coin once because it looked so yummy.

Very crusty and very original. The scuff is on the holder. My other one-hundred or so crusty Barber halves are generally not as high a grade.

Is this crusty, or .... gunky, or ... fugly... or all of the above? Even soaking in kool-aid didn' t lift the stuff off this one image

At least LIBERTY is still smiling. Not quite as 'brown' in hand, more charcoals and dark greys. And the gunk doesn't quite 'pop' out at you either.

I enjoyed all the others' coins, thanks for posting.

I need to get that camera out and take a few pics tomarrow..... My quarters are much cruster then my halves however.....

Quarters are much easier to find then halves.....

That 1892-O above is simply awesome.....

Oh, I love those last 2!! ( Dave's 05o and Tom's 040o). Still can't find 'crusty' the official CU dictionary of lingo. Little help?

  • Thanks for posting all those nice Barber halves, as I've said before, if I can't share my Barber's with you guys.........my wife and son certainly don't give a rat's ass about them.

    Tyler,

I don't think you know what the word's fugly or crusty mean. Obviously there aren't any Barber's in your collection that meet that criteria. My 09-O, is also in an ANACS holder. In fact, lately I've picked up quite a few Barber halves in ANACS holders. I've found ANACS to be as consistent as any grading service, with regards to grading mid grade and upper grade circulated Barber halves.

    Tom,

I like the 1914...........a coin that's still on my want list.

    Dave and Don,

Now we're talking........plenty of crust there!
