The same stuff as anyone picking the old, decrepit yankees to win the world series.

I see the Sox (White or Red) vs the Cardinals
collecting various PSA and SGC cards

  • A few writers picked David Wright to win the NL MVP. That ought to put some smiles on Met fans faces.

I like the Twins as much as anybody but if you think they will win the world series, let alone their division you need help.

  • Well at least one person who posted in this thread thinks the Dodgers and Twims have as good of a shot as the Yankees.

The guys at ESPN can't even pick their noses.

I see the Phillies winning the NL pennant. Of course by the end of April, I may have a different opinion image

20 different guys at ESPN making picks. Not much different than 20 of us here making our picks.

Some of them made me laugh, though. Eric Chavez as AL MVP? image JD Drew as NL MVP? imageimage

The just had a memory lapse and forgot about Mr Albert Pujols out here in the midwest. He will make his presence known again, and those media guys out east will wake up. Pujols will win his second in a row!

Some people simply make predictions to look all the more impressive if they are right. If David Wright wins the MVP somebody will point out the genius who picked him. When Pujols wins again, nobody will point out the guy picked Wright.

You're absolutely right. Not like they have to be right or accurate. It's like the weather.

dude, did you see my pitching?? Add a zero on that bad boy.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Take the 30-1 odds teams for the series. The ChiSox were 30-1 last year at this time and yes I laid down $300 on them to win the series and $200 @ 12-1 to win the American League Pennant. First time since 1987 I got a bet right in Vegas on the sports book. It was worth the wait too. image

Holy cow - congrats on your winnings!

I like Oakland for 13-1 and Atlanta 25-1

The wiseguys need to take another look at the PSA league odds - I am sure 8-1 for Team Bring It cannot be correct.

I love the 30-1 odds for the Jays, I might throw some money on that myself. But, I have a feeling this could be the Mets year.

That was a bad bet. If you liked the Sox, say, to win it all, and they're 12-1 to win their division, you would have made a lot more money if you would have simply taken the division bet, then parlayed your winnings on the ALCS and the WS.

Same goes for the NCAA's. NEVER take a team at 10-1. Instead, take them on the ML every game they play. If they go 6-0 your profits will dwarf what you would have made by taking a crappy futures bet.

Take the Jays to win the division, then bet all your winnings (and your original stake) on the AlCS and WS. It's a much, much better bet.
  • Boo, before the ChiSox last year, the last few WS winners came from wild-card teams so your method would not have worked.

Then take them to win the AL or NLCS and then parlay on the WS.

If you do a search and check the futures lines for WS winning teams you'll see that in almost every case this method is superior to betting championship futures.
  • I agree that's true more times than not, especially since people often "hedge" their bet anyway should their team reach the WS. It's probably more true for NL teams since with exception of STL and maybe NYM, almost every AL team would be favored in the WS (the AL is better and the AL wins the all-star game every single year)

As far as his was concerned, it is a counter-example. 30-1 for the WS is better than 12-1 for the ALCS... the 30-1 bet correlates to getting the ChiSox at +138 in the WS once they won the ALCS, I recall they were around -150 so doing the ALCS and then WS bet method you would only get around 21-1 odds for them.

A good friend of mine is a KC Royals fan. One gambling website actually has them at 5,000 to 1, and unfortunately for Royals fans it should be higher than that. My friend lurks here and I know he'll "enjoy" reading this...maybe it'll p*ss him off enough to finally post but he'll probably just curse my butt by e-mail - LOL

30 to 1 on my Phils seems about right although I have seen it lower on some bookie websites.
  • I got 3-1 odds on my team since I'm using McDougal as my primary closer!

5000-1 is about right for the Royals.
  • FWIW, I was bored and compared Zef's odds with the odds at a larger site.

The biggest discrepancy was the Cubs - 12-1 in Vegas but 46-1 online to win the WS - I guess the offshore books are banking on the cursed teams to win the WS streak ending at 2 in a row.
