How difficult is it to find a 1950's Jefferson nickel...

Not very difficult I would think. I actually have one right here on my desk.

Not that hard. I got a 1953-D a couple weeks ago from a local dealer that would probably grade 65, with excellent luster & flash, and incredible day-glo pastel colors -- greens & oranges, mostly, on both sides -- for something like four bucks. It takes some digging through binders & boxes to find a good one, but they are out there, and when you locate them, people practically give them away.

The mint sets of the 1950s, particularly mid to late 50s, have lots of very nicely toned coins. They are not hard to find....Mike

I bought a large lucite board with a complete run of Jefferson Nickels from 1938 to 1975, and many of the 1940s and 1950s coins have terrific color. Here's a pic of a couple of examples, though not from the era you mention they are the best photo I took and well representative of the group.
