Ok, Should I cross this PCI Sparkling Rainbow Toned Monster SMS Kennedy with PCGS or NGC?

braddickbraddick Posts: 24,152 ✭✭✭✭✭
I just won and paid for this delicious SMS monster toned Kennedy.
I want to cross it over so I can add it to my NGC Registry.
If I choose PCGS should I allow it to cross only at the grade of MS68 or should I accept, as a worse case scenario, the MS67 grade?

If I choose NGC do I request the STAR or is that something NGC will just automatically do based on the desirability and stunning beauty of this coin?

What would you do?

With the Peace Dollar Fiasco at NGC you think that will cross?

Personally, I'd want my $100 back.

But since it's for your NGC Registry I think you'd have a better chance of getting it holdered there, be it a 68 or a star.

You can request all the ****'s you want, but that don't mean they'll give it to you - they ain't accugrade image

PCI did. Why wouldn't the others? It might loose a grade. . .

Please... this is a happy talk thread.

I'll try to keep it a happy thread. Looks like this one was on the conveyor belt, obverse side down, right before it became an ingot.image

  • I like the coin and would personally leave it as is..........can't tell if it is AT or NT from the picture and I can't say for sure whether either company would slab it but......it would appear to me that there is at least a chace it gets holdered by one or the other. As a crossover.........I would think your chances would be reduced but hey.....it's worth a shot for your registry set image

Try NGC, if they BB it, go back to a PCI slab.. if they send it back a 67 or even a 66 it should get a star designation. Even a 66 star designation would be nice.

It *is* a really nice looking coin.

i would go with anacs. ngc had peacegate and pcgs is just
plain tight. i am sure in an anacs slab it would demand more
    money than u paid?

    happy thoughts!

    what a nice looking coin

PCGS is tough on cool color - might only grade 65

maybe you should start a campaign at NGC to allow PCI and NTC coins to be allowed in their registryimage

If I was submitting that coin and I was bent on crossing it, I'd submit it to NGC at a cross at any grade w/o specifying the star. Its also cheaper than PCGS......which is ok too.

NGC will holder it. Just enclose with your submission a letter to the graders about how you know the person you bought it from, and you guarantee he had it in an envelope since he bought it directly from the mint, and that because of this you know 100% for sure it is NT.

The letter of course will go with the coin into the grading room and the graders will know then not to bodybag it.

See, it's like Adrian says in one of his listings, a textile Morgan that's still raw, about a 65 or 66. He says if you think it's AT, why would someone who could do that settle for a common grade coin to do it to? Plenty of 67's in that date out there, and instead of a $3000 toner, you've got a $20,000 super gem monster. There are still people who think that the rainbow reverse on this Kennedy can be done artificially, but if so, why for pocket change? The infamous peace didn't have rainbow coloration vis-a-vis classic silver sulfide toning. This Kennedy does. It's NT. PCGS, Pat.

Whoooaa, it certainly looks like rain tonight....
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
  • When I took a look and scrolled down all I needed to see was the gold label.........

Happy? Sure, happy I didn't see it and happy I didn't make the mistake of buying it.

    Good luck.

You might be happier if you could just turn around and put it back up on eBay to allow someone else to share in all the happiness.

I've got a feeling that one would look even better during............... image

  • Now how did thAT happen?

    Too much happiness, I guess.
