Picked this up on ebay, I was hoping it was a counterfeit. IMO, this is a great example. Not sure if its struck or cast, but in hand it looks like the real deal minus a few details. I thought it was interesting that this Morgan also has some neat clash marks...
First the Date looks odd, especially the "5" The legend and stars are flat and misshapen.
Though the biggest "give aways" are the mint mark and reeding...
The "S" is obviously too small and almost of a different font.
The reeding is exceptional until this one spot where they look crammed together...
Anyone have any idea how to tell if its a newer counterfeit or an older one? Im not even sure of the metal, looks like silver but could easily be something else.
Thanks

VAM's Disease is funny.
hi, i'm tom.
i do not doctor coins like some who post in here.
Added: it looks like they copied a 21-S reverse. Maybe it was near 1921, so they went with an older reverse and faked the wear.
<< <i>The bottom of RIB looks very strange... as do other letters. The 'S' mint mark seems like evidence enough. Have you weighed it?

Sure enough Norm, it is a 21 reverse on that coin.
