VAMmers - What's this gouge on my 1880-P

I was trying to attribute an 1880-P Morgan today. Saw what looks like a die gouge in the hair over the last two digits of the date. Compared it to some other 80-P's. Only the one coin has it. Any ideas? Am I seeing things? Too small to be significant?

The top image looks normal.
The bottom image is on the coin in question.

Yes this is a die gouge. Nothing to get twitterpated about though. Most VAM's of consequence resulted from dies altered in production, such as doubled ('88-O VAM 4) and tripled ('78 VAM 44) dies rather than dies altered by post production repair or maintenance. Unfortunately, the trend in recent years in cataloging VAM's has swung toward atom splitting and giving props to specialists who thrive on recognition for making "new" discoveries.

Heh. "Atom splitting." That's an apropos characterization of my obsession.
