Conversation I just had with PCGS...

I just called PCGS inquiring into the status of my current submission. It is a Regular 5 coin submission (15 days guaranteed). My order was entered on 3/7/06. After customer service looked it up she said my order was halfway done, meaning it would be done in approx 15 days. I informed her that it was a regular submission and should be dome today or tomorrow. She added the days up and said I was right and that she "would place it on the spreadsheet" and my grades would be posted by 5:00 pm today. Is this how things work over there? Should I really expect to see my grades by the end of the day? How on earth do they keep things straight?

  • Also expect your grades to be on average 1-2 points lower....

I'd suggest that it would not be prudent to hold your breath.

  • It's sad but it seems PCGS has failed collectors and NOTHING is going to change unless through some major action that holds them accountable. PCGS doesn't "grade" coins anymore, as they are in the business of making as much re-submission money as possible and cutting corners on office staff to save a few bucks at the expense of submitters. After going to the Baltimore show and looking at numerous certified coins, especially Lincolns, it's quite evident that PCGS only awards grades to most coins that are about 1 grade higher than what the ANA grading guide says they are, as in MS-65 PCGS being 66 in most other people's mind. Conservative grading should be not giving a PQ coin the next grade up. Instead, PCGS awards MS-66 to an ANA MS-67 to 68, etc. etc. because of the registry game. This is why NGC doesn't allow it's graders to be involved in the "Market", because the market WILL corrupt you eventually, the same way that money corrupts politicians. If you are foolish enough to believe that it won't then be prepared to reap the consequences.

I thought submissions minimums were 10 coins now.

At the last L.B. show I was in a hurry and forgot about the 10 minimum, they had no problem
excepting 3 coins for a Economy submission.

The response I got was No. 1 on your list. "Your grades should be posted by 5:00 pm." Im just wondering if they are telling the truth. Maybe I should not have called. I might have received a bunch of free submissions considering PCGS thought my Regular submission was an Economy submission. Who was it earlier who posted something about who around here "plays the game." Amen to that.

For those of us who haven't submitted coins to PCGS in over a year and was thinking of submitting 10-15 coins, this definately does not sound very encouraging at all.

At a recent major show, a dealer showed me a proof Indian cent he just got back from the PCGS show service. They graded it PR65RB and this coin was the most original blazing brilliant full red I've ever seen, not even a hint of brown or mellowing on the coin anywhere, and I also thought it was a nice 66 as well.

I really don't know what in hell PCGS is doing these days, but if I just spent 100.00 or more for their express show service and got that coin back with that grade assigned, I would've been really upset. Unfortunately, he wouldn't sell it to me anywhere near the PR65RB price, LOLOL.
  • In fairness I have to say that I just called PCGS because I lost my Membership Submission Voucher.....It took "Nikki" about five minutes to solve my problem for me.....Thats what I call Customer Service.........Thanks Nikki. I appreciate the help......image
