I guess it could. Gold is coming out of oversold territory from a chart prospective. This makes the likelyhood of a higher gold price more likely than not. I tend to think silver moves up easier when gold is moving higher. In the end, the large investors control price movements on the short term basis. Im hanging on to my silver and gold for the long haul so daily swings like the ones we are witnessing, although nice, dont really mean anything.
Prices are flying out in space. Makes me glad I made the right moves last year.
I read that silver could hit $15 before the ETF is released. And then it could drop once pressure is off. Or the ETF could build obscene upward pressure.
But $15 before the ETF is the key.

At 15.00, I thinkl silver is still cheap. As crazy as that might sound, I think silver deserves a 50-60 an oz price. If gold gets to 1000 an ounce we will have no problem seeing 50.00 silver. Im still buying more even at these prices, if I can free up some mhulla.

Would you really?
Non-collectors think silver is precious, so I wouldn't have a problem with Silver being in the $20-30 (USD) range soon.
I would have to say... my "selling point" is about ~30x what I paid for things... the point where I say "I like it, but if you're willing to give me that much, you can have it!"
PS I bought some peace dollars recently (for the silver hoard); anyways, it's crazy to think (vs. the price I paid) that my yield for 1 month is 30%! Me thinks it's time to take up another hobby till the craziness passes...

Weiss,
Why do you feel $15/oz is a critical price point relative to ETF intro? (not disagreeing, just curious as to your thinking)
Thanks,
Don

<< <i>Do people think the gold:silver ratio has any meaning? >>
Hmmmm, I like to think about things in a "relative value" sort of way... if gold is ~$550 USD, shouldn't Ag be ~$48'ish?

It feels like at least 50, out of those 43 posts, are about Silver price

Nope, in a free market, it "should be" what it is.
And 50 to 1 has been a lot more realistic ratio for the past 75 years

I do too (like to think in terms of "relative value"), but it seems clear to me that few who actually drive the price of these metals do. I don't think many large buyers or sellers of silver or gold make those decisions based on the Au/Ag ratio. In the last 30 years or so the ratio has varied from 20:1 to 100:1. Ignoring the Hunt Bros attempt to corner the ag market, the ratio has still varied widely between 1:30 and 1:100. To me, that is a convincing arguement against the ratio having a strong influence on pricing of either metal.

I'm not a fan of the ratio thing. Check out this chart, looks like the bottom of a 500 year bear market for silver. Onward and Upward from here.

If so, I'm not making the same mistake twice - I vow never to purchase another Donna Summer album again.

I could become a very short term bull. While the Au/Ag ratio was bound to decrease there
it was not so apparent that silver could blow by all these stops on its way to its current price.
While I've long figured that $12 was the upside limit on this move it is possible it will go all the
way to the old resistance level of $14.
The market is in chaos now due to extraneous factor so there is huge risk. Short term players
could get blown out of the water pretty suddenly. Caution is well advised at this level but long
term holders can continue to nibble with little fear. It might even be a good idea to make a few
sales or trades for numismatic material if we do go to $14.

I don't think anyone was really mad - but you have to admit that 5 or 6 topic lines regarding this on the front page was excessive.

Well, jeniffer, part of the issue is you keep starting new threads with the same topic (silver prices) but no discussion. That's not really the idea here. Why not just update one thread with new information instead of starting separate threads so frequently?

try limiting it to one thread a day which can be updated, and also try and not edit your replys every few minutes.
i enjoy reading on the subject, I do not however enjoy tripping over the other 5+ threads you startup daily on the subject.
